Shift Double Click on an item stack no longer works

The following Inventory Management change no longer works :

-Shift double click an item stack to move all other item stacks of that kind to that part of the inventory

It used to work by simply holding shift + double clicking an item stack, but currently, it only works if you click an item, then shift+double click an item stack (while still holding the item).

Confirmed in 13w02b.

Dang, I sure got attached to this shortcut in a hurry. Inventory management is painful without it now.

ALSO normal double click doesn't work, tested in creative inventory survival tab but I'm sure it does the same in survival. Strangely it works in container screens e.g dispensers.

Someone update this since it's not fixed in 13w05a

Nathan Adams

I'm not too sure we can re-add this feature. Picking items up works on mouse-down now, to prevent lag, but in order for this to work it would need to not process normal clicking until it knows for sure that you're not doubleclicking. I think we will have to mark it as "won't fix" I'm afraid 😞

Kimitsu Desu

What do you mean, Dinnerbone? Shift + Double click works almost as Shift + Click but for all of the items of a type. That means that you can process the first click as normal, but if the second click arrives shortly in the same spot, repeat the same action for the whole set of items. Not to mention that using Shift + Right click is also an option.

Mark Dykstra

I'm with Kimitsu. That feature was so useful when it worked, and it's not a big deal if it processes the shift-click before the second click, it just needs to momentarily remember what the shift-click did so it can apply the same effect to the other items of the same type when the slot is clicked again. In fact, I think that's what it did in 13W01 because the first stack visually moved on the first click (before the others did).

Simons Mith

Yes, what Mark and Kimitsu said. When you get a single click, you should proceed on the assumption that that's all that will happen, then modify the behaviour a few milliseconds later when the second click arrives. That's a core principle of every mouse UI.

Jared Jeyaretnam

Dinnerbone, please reconsider. This feature is incredibly useful for all kinds of things: For example, when I use the distribute action in a crafting table, but don't use all the items, I can just double click to collect everything under one stack. The strangest thing is IT STILL WORKS IN DISPENSERS. The code is in there, you just need to apply it to other inventories.

Agreed, this was the biggest boost in pleasantness in my Minecraft experience in a long time. It made a BIG difference.

I've tried to get this fixed but no-one seems to have noticed it. I don't think it has enough votes for it to be seen by you or jeb:

This is a MAJOR problem with torches not triggering TNT and dispensers, etc, when placed down.

Eric R

why is this a "won't fix"? seems to work in 1.6.2...

Daniel Harris

I just typed it with 1.6.2 and it don't work for me
