Items in item frame are normally lit/shaded when place, but when rotated differently than their "normal" sprite, the item is shaded darker.

Unable to reproduce. Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while ingame and attach the crash report here.

Cannot reproduce either.
Was this on a bukkit or vanilla server ?

I attached the Crash report. I am currently combining the screenshots of my reproductions.

I also just uploaded the reproduction with timestamp for verification. I found similar results when tested on another frame in the world.
EDIT: The server is running the 13w02a snapshot and is vanilla.

BTW: 13w02a is outdated. Snapshot 13w02b is available at http://www.mojang.com/

I added crash log from 13w02b and a new reproduction using the newest snapshot

My last advice: Update your graphics driver
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M OpenGL Engine GL version 2.1
OpenGL 2.1 is somewhat outdated...

Switched to fast graphics and could confirm.

I wouldn't call it a bug then.
Fast graphics is not as fancy as fancy graphics, hence the name.

Well, even if it is not fancy, it should not change the texture, or its lighting, I think.

At least it's confirmed officially now. BUT. I do not think us without the ability to use fancy graphics should be punished.

Yes, you both are right.
Simply rotating the texture shouldn't affect the lighting..

Some information I gathered while creating my own bug report, not realizing it was a duplicate. May help with something:
"(Note that I have recently tested some more, and found it also occurs on Creative and on Snapshot 13w06a, and the block it is on does not matter)
Edit: I tested again and found out that Direction does affect it - while it still happens on every direction, East and West have a more noticable effect."

I see this error in 1.5 unmodded, on any server (vanilla or bukkit) that I play.

This has happened since Update 1.5 & still happens now (Update 1.6.2), but I've found the solution.
In your "Video Setting", see if your "Graphics" is on fast. If it is, change it to fancy, your problem should now be sorted.
Hope this helps 🙂
Edit: I think the reason why the item doesn't get dark on fancy is because it's in 3D.

Confirmed for 1.7.4; can this be updated?

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w08a? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Still an issue in 08a and 1.7.5

Can reproduce in 1.7.5 but not in 14w10c, seems to be fixed.

Seems to be fixed

Yes it's already marked as fixed.
