MC-73866

Game crash when an item is thrown into a nether portal.

Throwing a snowball through a Nether portal in the overworld will cause a game crash. Multiple tests. Makes me sad. 😞 Happy Halloween! 🙂

Confirmed for

  • 1.8.1-pre3 also Happy Halloween 😃
After the crash I also got this, don't know if this is too great...

[18:05:19] [Client Shutdown Thread/INFO]: Saving players
[18:05:19] [Server thread/WARN]: handleDisconnection() called twice
    [18:05:19] [Client Shutdown Thread/INFO]: Marcono1234 lost connection: TextComponent{text='Server closed', siblings=[], style=Style{hasParent=false, color=null, bold=null, italic=null, underlined=null, obfuscated=null, clickEvent=null, hoverEvent=null, insertion=null}}
AL lib: (EE) alc_cleanup: 1 device not closed

    Also got this

[18:23:50] [pool-2-thread-2/ERROR]: Signature is missing from textures payload

It seems like this only happens, when the nether wasn't loaded already (but also not always)

    Probably relates to: MC-21806

Also, throwing snowballs from the nether to the overworld (through a portal) causes pretty much lag

Didn't crash, but game froze for 466 ticks (23.337 seconds). As with Marcono1234, it only happened the first time.

Could you include crash reports of both the server and the client?

Well in 1.8.1-pre4 I cannot reproduce the crash anymore but there is still quite lag when throwing snowballs through portals

Dlawso the Really Lucky Rabbit

I can still reproduce the crash on -pre4.

This is a crash that happened today on my server. We don't know what caused it, but based on the stack trace, it looks like it may be related to this issue.

Also related to MC-74954.

ok... good. my issue linked here also... 🙂

by the way, this is still applicable to 1.8.1 stable release.

When putting any two entities through a nether portal from the same dimension consecutively within a short period of time, the game will crash. This occurs with players as well when a player quickly travels through the portal to the nether, then back to the overworld, then back through to the nether again, but instead of crashing, the game will stay stuck on the downloading terrain screen. There also does seem to be lots of lag on the first time an entity goes through as well. This isn't limited to a single nether portal, as if the first entity enters a portal, and the second enters another, the game will still crash.

I experienced the same bug.

I attached the cras hreport and the part of the log file indicating the last event, maybe related (or not) to the crash.

THe fall from the high place was made by jumping into a block of water from a high place, which normally slows you down and avoids getting killed... I do no know if I died resulting from a bug or if my fall triggered it, but that death was unexpected/not normal, as tested multiple times.
