While testing out the latest snapshot, I noticed something for the first time
I crafted a bed and a furnace.
The feet of my bed points toward the front of the furnace.
As it was getting to be nighttime, I had some iron to smelt and wanted to reset the time to day.
So I put my iron ore and a piece of coal in the furnace and hopped into bed.
I observed that the smelting animation does not appear on the screen if I am in bed waiting for the time to become day again.

Can confirm if right-clicking the bed while not looking at furnace.
I tested this out on 1.8.2 pre 1 and I can see the smelting animation when I sleep under the sky facing the furnace. But if I go underground and smelt, and sleep in my bed facing the furnace, then the smelting animation does not occur.
