Major lag issues in 1.8

Hello,
Minecraft 1.8 and most of the snapshots have major lag issues. Standing still, looking around relatively slowly and maybe having a nice walk, I get 70+ fps. Then, if I maybe fly around or start to sprint and look around faster (such as PVP) I drop to frames around 12 fps. This fps issue seems to be so extreme I believe it to be a bug. Problem consists regardless of whatever video setting I use. I also asked some friends of mine and they have the same issues. I even think people with amazing computers, such a BdoubleO(youtuber) is being affected by this; though, not as severe. I have followed several tutorials and did tons of research. People say the the lag is related to water but its not for me. But I have done some tests to narrow down to as where the problem is. I found that moving around I lag whenever my cpu usage goes to 100%, and then, my gpu usage goes from 99% down to 10%. Clearly my cpu is the bottleneck here. But the big thing is: I don't have that bad of a cpu. Sure, I should get a little lag when moving around and loading new chunks, but this is just too extreme.
Back in 1.7 I got 90+ fps almost always and when moving around I dropped 0 frames. This is a pretty important point as it shows that this is something that they did to 1.8. I have tried turning VBO's on and off; doesn't change a thing.
Also, if you are reading this, PLEASE PLEASE add back the anisotropic filtering and advanced openGL option. I think a big amount of this lag could be fixed with an advanced openGL option and I also have some rendering glitches without the anisotropic filtering.
Kind regards,
Huni

The Minecraft devs are very much aware that there are certain performance issues, and there are already several reports on the subject. It's difficult to consider lag a bug, as it is dependant on many factors, such as hardware and java version. If you wish you add info about your lag, you can contribute to this subreddit.

You may also want to consult the Mojang Support Center, and visit the help chat to get individualized assistance with this.

One last thing to note: this website is strictly for bug reports, and not feature requests. Anisotropic filtering was removed as an option due to issues it caused with various hardware. If you are seeing graphical issues without the option, it is likely caused by your graphics drivers (or settings within them). Finally, the Advanced OpenGL option was removed because, frankly, it wasn't particularly helpful or useful, and caused many rendering issues. The current system employed by the game is much more efficient than that of Advanced OpenGL, and does not require enabling, or specific hardware to support it.

Thankyou for the swift response. I felt I needed to post this as it seems that they are making efforts to increase performance, yet my very issue isn't being touched. They fixed this in one single snapshot and then reverted it. In a way, this is a bug. Although, sure, If I had a 5-way titanZ sli and 50ghz 16 core I wouldn't get any of this, I still believe its too laggy for most people. I am glad it is being worked on though. The actual rendering engine is most likely better, but, the chunk loading I feel has its issues. I am glad that they are working on it and my hopes are up for 1.8.1.
Thanks,
Huni

Do you know in what snapshot/pre-release this was 'fixed' for you?

A side note, one thing some people have done to improve performance (when using Nvidia cards), is changing the options for Physx to use CPU by default. Typically this is more effective for more powerful or better threaded CPUs, but perhaps try this see if it makes a difference.

Just did some research. It should be "Fixed" in 14w33c.. although I am busy right now so I cannot test.

that is true I have the same snapshot and I hope and think that the next update will fix that.

I forgot what version. I'm busy right now but I will check through the
snapshots later 🙂.
