[MC-78043] Gradually increasing lag until complete freeze

Problem began occurring after Feb 14.
During play, game starts initially fine, but begins to lag and jump. Lag increases over time until it completely freezes up.
Seems to occur on surface. While mining, lag was minimal unless in open cave. But on surface, the further you move around the lore it chops.
Occurs in every saved world
Created a new world, problem still occurs.
Tried 1.8,1.8.1, 1.8.2 and 1.8.3. Problem exists in all versions.
Updated Java to V8, no change

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) here.

Please attach the complete output of the "Game Output (Your Minecraft name) " which can be found on the fourth tab of the launcher.

If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then, "Keep the launcher open".

Found the problem was triggered by looking around. Walking and strafing all didn't seem to make it worse. The more I turned, the worse it got. Finally even walking was affected.

Increased memory to 2G and then 4G as described. No noticed change. Game still slows down to a halt within five minutes.

I do see a GL ERROR in the startup and pre-render. Could that be related?

Increased memory to 8G. Problem occurred slower but still happened.

Problem went away when I went to a deep mine and came back when I returned to the surface. Going deep underground seems to reset it. Quitting and restarting also resets it.
