I'll use Hebrew as an example:
Typing in א->ב->ג (arrows indicate order) will print out ג->ב->א in the text bar.
This means that in order to write in readable Hebrew, one would have to write everything completely backwards, gniyonna s'taht dna.
I think this only affects Hebrew and Arabic since they're the only two rtl languages in the game that I know of.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.4 / Launcher version 1.3.9 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Unfortunately I won't be able to check for the next while. If anyone would test it and post the results I'll update the OP accordingly.
3/6/2015 - still an issue in minecraft 1.8.6. been an issue since day one and the problem hasn't been fixed.
simply annoying. I sometimes play with israeli people(My friends) who can barely read English and that's not even possible to read/write in hebrew like this, or should i say: siht ekil
Resolved to the more recent ticket MC-94382
Arabic is impacted in the same way. Arabic is a cursive language, so all the letters should be connected. For example "العربية" "Arabic" is shown "ا ل ع ر ب ي ة" when displayed in Minecraft.
Thanks!
