I think the game crashes if you start to download a new version then lock your computer while it's going.
What I expected to happen was...:
When I came back, Minecraft would be open and running
What actually happened was...:
I saw a crash report in the launcher
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Begin downloading a new minecraft version (might occur when just launching)
2. Lock your computer (WinKey + L on Windows) (I'm ona alptop, I actually pressed Fn+f7 which turns off the screen and has a similar effect)
3. After a period of time, unlock your computer.

Thank you for your report.
However, your ticket has been resolved as a duplicate.
This issue has been linked to the original report: MC-297. This is known to be an issue with your computer.
Please update your graphics card drivers following these instructions: Updating Graphics Card Drivers.
If you are using Java arguments to increase the amount of memory, please reduce it to the default 512MB.
Do not rely on automatic searches for driver updates.
Do not use Windows Update or Device Manager - Microsoft doesn't install OpenGL, they promote DirectX.
If you know the brand and type of your graphics card, go to the links provided above and search manually for the most recent driver for your card. The automatic detection tools of the card manufacturers are not recommended.
:info: If all that won't help, please use the Mojang Support Center.
Find the crash report in the Minecraft data folder (
[minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt
) and attach it to the issue (click the More button near the top and "Attach Files").
