Visual glitching when player faces a certain direction in narrow areas

When facing a certain direction in narrow areas (eg. my home) The entire game de-renders and shows empty space as shown.
It also did this in the base 1.8 version.

MC-63070 Chunks do not render behind the player in F5. Perhaps culling should calculate from camera POV instead of presuming head position.
