Sideways facing hopper transfers items in minecarts below it

What happened

When you place a Minecart with a container (like a locked hopper or chest minecart) below a sideways facing hopper, it fills it items in that minecart.

How to reproduce

  1. Place a hopper facing against a wall

  2. Place a rail below the hopper

  3. Place a minecart with chest on the rail

  4. Put an item in the hopper

You will see that the item gets transfered into the minecart.

The bug in detail

When Minecarts are placed in such formation (one block away to the North or West), Hoppers automatically transfer items to those Minecarts regardless of any conditions. MinecartChests and MinecartHoppers act the same.

If you place any items in to the red or orange marked hoppers, items will transfer to the the blue and green Minecarts even if no Minecart is present under the red or orange hoppers.
NOTE: Chests and Hoppers do not act this way - just Minecart versions. This is not consistent and is considered a bug.

This is intended. Hoppers will drop the item below if there is an open hopper available no matter which direction they are funneling.

qmagnet: But surely it shouldn't funnel items into chest minecarts underneath the hopper when it's pointing to the side?

Oh, I misread. I thought it said MinecartHoppers.
Perhaps a picture would help.

Cannot reproduce, please attach screenshots of your setup.

Confirmed for 1.8.8 and 15w37a.

But there's a lot more to the bug.
Did some more testing and the bug isn't caused from sideways hoppers or Chest Minecarts.

I recommend adding this info to the description and re-title the bug "Minecarts North or West of hoppers, steal items regardless of conditions."

Please reopen.

No. I'm saying the direction of the hopper doesn't matter. The minecarts steal the items regardless.

Marconi1234, the reason the bug is not about sideways hoppers is because if you place a Chest Minecart under a hopper funneling to the North direction, it doesn't transfer items.

More testing:
Hoppers pointing to the North direction (negative Z) do not transfer items to Chest Minecarts below. When the chest Minecart gets pushed a block to the -Z direction the Minecart will steal the items.

In the example I've attached the "Gold" Hopper will transfer items, while the "Emerald" Hopper will not.

Oh actually I just realized this is the same issue as MC-78759.
Mark this as duplicate. I posted some better info in my comment there.

Alright, I see now what you are talking about. The screenshots were just a little bit confusing as you used the colors twice and I didn't really understand why
