I'd like to add that when this bug occurs (Steve eats another food item even after releasing the right mouse button), the slow down of movement won't occur. The player will walk with normal speed instead of the expected speed when consuming food. The sound effect of eating plays, the item is consumed and it does restore hunger points. Steve will eat only one more piece of food after releasing the right mouse button, not more.
Also I noticed that it occurs way more frequently after eating 2 items in a row and then releasing the mouse button. It is very easy to reproduce the bug. I attached a video of it.
My current workaround: After eating one item, still press the button to start eating a second one, but before actually finish eating it, release the button. That way you only eat one.
Confirmed. My workaround is to switch the selected item to something else so that it interrupts the eating process.
FWIW, i've seen this happen too, and no, its not lag, as the game doesn't freeze up in any way when it happens. It just, as describes, consumes another food.
I'm still seeing this in 1.4.4pre in SSP on Mac Os 10.5.8. In fact, you get even less warning that it's about to happen than in prior versions. But AFAICS /all/ instances of this bug are currently marked as Closed/Resolved. Unless I've overlooked the 'live' version of the bug, one of these older reports should be reopened.
It's closed because it is a duplicate of MC-849 which is open/unresolved.
