[MC-91638] minecraft crashes while playing 1.9

Whenever I open a World in 1.9 this is what happens:
the chunks load and then minecrafte crashes.
I am not sure whether this is due to the hardware or the software on my computer. I have an i3 processor. Could Windows 10 be an issue here? Because I do not use a Minecraft Windows 10 edition.
