Horses can be pushed into blocks, making the horse suffocation.

Reproduce steps:
1. Get spawn egg.
2. Will horses spawn in the side block.
3. Push it into the block.

Confirmed. Seems that when spawned, the hitbox of the horse is in the block.

Spawn eggs have always spawned mobs regardless of whether there is enough space.
