When a baby cow grows to an adult, the hitbox of the cow does not get updated to the adult cow's hitbox, and the full grown cow can still travel through 1 block high spaces.
Upon relogging, ALL cows (baby or adult) are given the adult cow's hitbox size. (I.E. babies can no longer fit into 1-high areas)
HOWEVER:
These hitbox glitches do not apply to damage taken by the cows. A "short" adult DOES take suffocation damage if its head is in a solid block, and a "tall" baby DOES NOT take damage if placed in the same 1-high box.
These hitbox glitches are not displayed in the F3+B mode. (I.E. "tall" babies still have their tiny white box, and "short" adults still show their larger white box)

Updated affected versions in favor of MC-10730.
This looks to still be broken. Stacked baby animals and villagers are still getting shot through solid blocks upon relogging. This seems to be related to babies getting adult hitboxes. Were both issues of this bug addressed or just the first?
This bug still seems to be unresolved for cows and chickens in Win 10 version 0.16.2 as well, although I cannot use any F3 commands to see the hitboxes for confirmation. The animals will not be touched by lava dispensed above them until after logging out of the game and logging back in. Upon relog, BOTH the adult and baby cows take damage from a lava pulse 1 high above ground level and suspended by signs. Drops are normal for adult cows, while babies will drop nothing.
i can confirm this as i have an animal breeder, it works up to the point where the baby cow grows up and effectively moves through blocks (may sound crazy but true). I also found that when the baby cow grows up and the chunks are still loaded the cow glitches through the blocks and you have a cow invasion/explosion.
