What I expected to happen was...:
Upon right clicking grass block with shovel it should turn into the new dirt path block.
What actually happened was...:
The game froze instantly (the shovel didnt even swing) no crash report was created to submit as program became unresponsive - had to terminate via task manager. I have reloaded and tested several times chosing a different grass block each time. All resulted in the program freezing.
I had managed to successfuly transform 4 grass blocks before the problem started.
Steps to Reproduce:

After having this issue: Please attach the complete output of the "Game Output (Your Minecraft name) " which can be found on the fourth tab of the launcher to this ticket.
If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then, "Keep the launcher open".

This is the game output along side the game window that is not responding. 3 grass blocks had been turned to the new dirt path and then it just stalls, never fully crashes and closes the game.

Just noticed I had the texture packs enabled for when re creating issue for screenshot. The use of the faithful64 and failthfil1.9 is not the cause as I had first identified the issue and since posting the image link re-tested in pure vanilla 1.9 - no packs and the issue is present.

Still an issue one the pre release

Still an issue on pre-2 also. Out of curiosity, am I the only one with this issue and is it going to be fixed? Official release is 2 days off and with no response to this bug report other than updating each time I comment worries me that I might not be able to use 1.9.
Kind Regards

I'm suspecting a corrupt sound file, please follow the instructions of MC-2249.
If that won't help:
(Before freezing) Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]
) to this ticket.

Yes that appears to be the required fix 🙂 Thanks for your help all seems to be working correctly now.
Sorry i missed out the detail this was using an iron shovel, so far the only one I have found to be affected.
