There are some language specific letters that look different from normal Latin letters. It's very annoying and looks ugly.
Of course, you can choose Force Unicode Font: ON
, but then the font lose its magic and doesn't look like Minecraft font should look. Russian and some other languages letters look bad even with Force Unicode Font: OFF
.
Also I tried to fix those letters with a resource pack, but it still looks a little bit different (it lacks some sort of shadow).

Cannot confirm for 16w06a
Most of the characters are always displayed thinner now and characters like "ž" are displayed with a shadow
Maybe it does work as intended, but if you'd try to play in Lithuanian (or another language that has this problem) and keep Force Unicode: OFF, you'd:
1. Change language back to English.
2. Set Force Unicode to ON and lose original font that we all know and love.
3. Play normaly because you don't read any text.
It just looks unprofessional and ugly. Players expect every letter to be bold, not just the ones at ascii.png.
Also, the character "ž" looks normal, because it's in ascii.png, but if you'd try "Ž", it'd be thin.
But that doesn't mean it's impossible. I already said, that I made a resource pack, that fixes Lithuanian language letters and it actually looks good. This is very possible with other languages' letters too.
There are multiple languages in Minecraft: Story Mode. I tried to launch the game with Russian and Chinese languages and the game had bold letters (in normal Minecraft they aren't bold).
They should maybe have a website similar to crowdin where users can suggest how characters should look, then they would not need to create all the characters on their own
Easiest fix would be to replace the ascii characters with unicode equivalents in the translation files.
Probably works as intended
