Weird Huge Black Thing

When I created a new Minecraft world (creative, default) there was a huge weird black thing. When I go closer (2nd image) it shows the textures of a bunch of the blocks/items (including animated fire) When I saved and quit to the title, and went back into the world, it was gone.
