A specific nether portal sets me on fire every time I enter it (overworld to nether transition). I checked the blocks around the nether portal for something that would set me on fire somehow, but there's nothing.
The same portal set me on fire when it linked to a known safe location as well as once I set up the portal in the proper spot in the nether.
Uncertain how to reproduce (except it happens every time in that specific portal)

That's about suffocation, I literally get set on fire.

Portal teleports you to your overworld coordinates for a brief second, which causes getting on fire (if there is lava) or used to give suffocation damage (if there is a block; now we have invincibility period when moving between dimensions)
Everything is said in the comments in MC-89928

Ah, I see, that's why it's the same problem. Is it fixed in a beta patch or something?

I can confirm this issue. I have 2 portals (out of many) that do this. Overworld->Nether transition. I tried destroying them and placing them again. Didn't help. I think this should be reopened. I can provide a world download if that helps.
As it is happening with 2 very far separated portals without any observable reason, I have no idea how to reproduce

This should be reopened, I'm having this issue in my realms world

theory: the place the portal spawned you had fire on the netherrack that was replaced with the portal, or the thought the way a portal activates with FLINT AND STEEL, that creates fire, also.
