The last version of the launcher (before the redesign) ran flawlessly, and now the launcher will not start. When I run minecraft-launcher from Terminal, it does nothing. I have tried reinstalling the launcher from two different downloads of the file.
Conversely, on my other laptop (also running Ubuntu 18.04), the launcher runs flawlessly.
I am using what seems to be the latest available version for Ubuntu on both - version 2.1.5410.
It should be self-explanatory why this is a bug.
It does not seem to produce any log files (if anyone knows where I can find them that would be great), but it doesn't do anything else either.
How to reproduce
acquire one Lenovo n21 Chromebook.
install MrChromebox's UEFI ROM and then GalliumOS Baytrail 3.0beta1.
install Minecraft.
now try to launch it.
Please fix this soon (or roll out a newer version that does work for Ubuntu)!
Thanks 🙂
- Zach
The Launcher certainly runs on Ubuntu 18.04. Whatever is causing this is a difference between regular Ubuntu and GalliumOS I suppose.
Why is there no log available? You should certainly have a launcher_log.txt. If the launcher was working before, you might also have a native_log.txt. Both are found in your .minecraft folder. What happens when you run it? How long does it take to exit? What's the exit code?
The latest beta version also has more logging enabled. Please try that and see if you get any more information. You can download a package from here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/try-new-minecraft-launcher-beta
