Launcher/Game crashes when I click play

I have just redownloaded Minecraft for the first time in years and whenever I click play, it prepares with the green bar at the bottom. However when it gets to 100%, the application closes and then reopens saying there is an error. Whenever I click on the view error report button, nothing happens.

I do believe I am on the correct version of java.

Same exact thing is happening to me after redownloading java edition 1.14.3... also unable to view crash report

From experimentation, I've discovered that the bug occurs when trying to allocate more RAM than is currently available. Check your JVM arguments and change -Xmx<number>G to a value that your computer is able to allocate.

exact same thing happening to me. Is there any fix?

In the launcher log file it said there was not enough ram to continue. So just add this arguement to java: -Xmx2G

I got it working finally, I followed this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e5E0-f-ubU
Hope that helps!

Getting the same error. The only thing that worked was completely re-installing windows and then it worked once, after that getting the same error.

Edit: I got it to work again. My problem is with the Nvidia graphics card in my laptop. The game won't launch unless the NVidia GPU is active and for some reason it deactivates when closing the lid and using other monitor. So I open the lid to launch the game then close it to play in my external monitor.

Your error states that your system is out of memory. The comment above about trying to allocate more RAM to java than is available in the machine seems like a good explanation for this - Make sure your JVM arguments in your Installation does not have too high number in it. If in doubt, go back to the default values.
