Ever since i downloaded the new launcher to play minecraft 1.6 i have had a horrible framerate. Before 1.6 i would get no worse than 30fps. Now i can't get better than 12fps and Minecraft is very slow and constantly lagging

I had this too.. The VSync option was causing this for me. Try Cranking it to MAX FPS. (or vice versa).
