minecraft launches in background processors

ok so what keeps happening is i open minecraft from my desktop and it opens the launch and i press launch. my cursor then does the loading icon and stops and the game never opens. so i looked onto task manager and found it running in background processors for some reason and making me unable to play the game. i should also note that i played minecraft just that morning and did nothing inbetween now and then that would make this happen
Things i've tried:
-i have restarted the program in task manager(it just comes up in the launcher as it crashed and i press launch and it does the same thing again)
-i have restarted my computer
-i have reinstalled the game
-searched online for solutions and found none
-switched versions and it did the same thing
