This is an issue pertaining to the Minecraft launcher on Macs. The Minecraft.app is not code signed properly, which trips the firewall every time Minecraft is launched. The message flashes every time Minecraft is opened and returns again on the Multiplayer menu to ask if Minecraft should be allowed to accept incoming connections. No matter how many times you select allow, this will always happen again. Please fix!

To verify:

  1. Open Terminal.app and cd to somewhere convenient.

  2. curl -O https://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftDownload/launcher/Minecraft.zip
    unzip Minecraft.zip
    codesign -v Minecraft.app
  3. Mac OS claims Minecraft.app: code or signature modified.

Tested on Mac OS X 10.6.8, Build 10K549 on a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13".

Known issue, apple added whining about signed applications meanwhile the launcher hasn't changed. Wont be fixed until we overhaul the launcher completely, you can fix it by turning off gatekeeper.

This would be an problem with Apple's software too. Not only Mojang's. Weird thing is it doesn't happen to my computer. I tested it. Luckily, I don't have Firewall on by default. 😛

This has nothing to do with Minecraft version. It's purely the launcher. We plan to update it for 1.6. The problems will be fixed then.

Does the new launcher fix this?

Yes it does. That is why it is only reported as 1.4 (it is also in 1.5).

Thanks for the feedback.
