Since the Minecraft Launcher updated itself to ver. 1.0.1.0 it will not start. Attempting to launch it causes an Application log Error Event ID 1000 (Application Error) and and Application log Information Event ID 1001 (Windows Error Reporting) to be logged.

We're actually already tracking this issue in MCL-12561, so I resolved and linked this ticket as a duplicate.
