PNG skins with Linear profile display incorrect color in game

This issues arrises when a skin PNG with Linear profile.

When I assign the skin to my account using the Launcher, it temporarily displays correctly.

However, upon launching Minecraft or re‑opening the Launcher, the skin will display with oversaturated colors.

These oversaturated colors persist in the actual game, and display to other players online as well.

Included for comparison and testing are the same skin saved as 8bit and 16bit PNGs

Hi, sam,

I have tried to reproduce this issue using the file you attached to the bug, but I couldn't.
is this still an issue for you?
Please get back to me asap, I will close the bug if i don't hear anything the coming days

Is it possible for you to upload these again but in a zip file? Jira might do some converting of these images when they are being uploaded. @unknown

Here is the folder with the files. I've since discovered that the issue isn't with 16 bit PNGs, but with PNGs encoded with a Linear color profile.

My image editor only encodes 16‑bit files as Linear by default, but the incorrect colors also occur if an 8‑bit file is forced to export with a Linear profile.

I've included both 8‑bit & 16‑bit files, both with a sRGB & Linear version.

Hi there!
Could you try to reinstall the Launcher? After deleting it, find .minecraft and delete the file - what is important that this file should be deleted from the trash bin, because corrupted files from the old .minecraft file may interract with the newly generated .minecraft file.

This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
