When I click 'play' on the Minecraft Launcher and the red Mojang screen pops up, my CPU temperature skyrockets from 50°C to ~97°C (checked with NZXTcam) for a dozen or so seconds until the title screen starts where it sits at ~60°C. I have no temperature problems in the actual game of Minecraft or in other AAA games such as Sekiro or The Witcher 3 where the temperature is ~80°C on very high settings. To give more information, I have an i7-9750h with 16gb RAM and the temperature only ever reaches this kind of temperature during the startup.

I have more or less the same experience with you, while not as high as 97C. My idle cpu temp is 37C-ish and my problems are the following:
in 1.15, temperature during startup is around 50-60C and return to 45C ish upon reaching the menu screen (reasonable)
in 1.16, temperature during startup is around 65-75C and return to 45C ish after a few seconds upon reaching the menu screen (still kinda reasonable?)
in 1.17, temperature during startup is around 70-80C, sometimes slightly above 80C, before finally return to 45C ish after almost a minute upon reaching the menu screen (I find this worrying)
I wonder if there's a way to spread the process across a period of time, even at the cost of somewhat longer loading time? So that it doesn't eventually overheat the cpu and does heat damage to other hardware?
Hi all – this appears to be a duplicate of MC-202953 (although this report was created earlier, MC202953 has received much more attention). Unfortunately, the developers of the game are unable to accept that report, because it is not specific enough and does not provide them with any information about the cause of the bug. Sorry about this. If any of you have any idea about the cause of the issue, feel free to create a new report in the MC project. 🙂
Thank you for your insightful comments Diako and I do hope Java is updated to run more efficiently. However, I believe that the severity of the issue still stands as 97 degrees Celsius is damn near boiling temperature and I don't expect this kind of temperature from any game I buy unless they play at one thousand frames per second on ultra graphics settings. Furthermore, I had actually done research on this problem by finding similar posts on the internet but there were only a handful which either had no replies or parroted the issue with cooling. Allow me to reiterate that I have absolutely zero problems running any other programs and games (which I believe to be far more CPU intensive than Minecraft) as the temperature never even reaches the realm of 85 degrees Celsius, so I don't believe that cooling is an issue.
To summarize, very very few people seem to share my experience of CPU temperatures nearing 100 degrees Celsius on startup and this is an issue isolated to Minecraft as the highest temperature I usually hit is just above 80 degrees Celsius. I have no other conclusion than the existence of a bug that affects the startup process of Minecraft. If I am being ignorant, please do point it out, but I'd love for a member of staff to confirm the nature of my problem.
