I am having an issue where the launcher will say the game has crashed unexpectedly when I try to start the client. When I try again, it crashes the whole computer to a black screen and I have to reboot. Trying to start 1.17.1.
UPDATE: this has become exponentially worse, exiting with an error once, maybe twice, then crashing the whole computer. When I restart, login information is totally wiped out, and when I do login, the Play button won't display - there is just an error that something went wrong, try again, but clicking on try again doesn't do anything. I have to close and restart the launcher. I have not been able to play even with a total wipe and clean install of both Java and Minecraft.

This is continuing to occur. I totally wiped, downloaded, and re-installed the launcher. It crashes with "Exit Code 1" message. Here's the logfile:
I just tried the Windows 7/8 client clean-installed and it crashes the same way. Here's the log file.
Have you tried to install the Launcher from the Microsoft store?

1) No I do not use any of the listed software
2) I'm not sure how to give any more detail. When I run the client, any client, it crashes the PC. Once it a great while I get 'the game crashed Error 0' or something like that, mostly it crashes and reboots my PC

Could you try to reinstall the Launcher? After deleting it, find .minecraft and delete the file - what is important that this file should be deleted from the trash bin, because corrupted files from the old .minecraft file may interract with the newly generated .minecraft file.
Does this issue occur on the newest version of Launcher?
Could you try to install new Launcher from Microsoft Store and see if the issue occurs there?
