when I try to load any version of minecraft it crashes with the error code -1, and I think some of my files are missing as I cant find the crash log file

Please uninstall the Launcher, delete .minecraft folder (copy its content elsewhere before deletion) and reinstall the Launcher.
Please also update your Windows and drivers (check regardless of current state).
