Cannot launch minecraft java edition through xbox

I have a gamepass subscription and have installed the launcher and minecraft java edition.

When I go to use it I get the failed to create profile error.

I believe I do have a minecraft java profile as I can see my account is setup and can be linked via the launcher. My profile name is combattater

I think I used to have this working a year or two ago but it has now stopped.

I can see there are multiple similar issues around such as https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-20496

I was not able to see any further information to help diagnose why this is happening.

I tried logging out in the launcher and logging back in and it seems to have gotten further, however as I've put the details in this bug report I thought I'd file it anyway as the dialog that is shown does not help me understand the issue is having  to login and out again.
