Could you try to reinstall the Launcher? After deleting it, find .minecraft and delete the file - what is important that this file should be deleted from the trash bin, because corrupted files from the old .minecraft file may interract with the newly generated .minecraft file.

This error only hapens when i use a different Ms acount in the store that has gamepass and other account logged in with the xbox and minecraft launcher that doesn't have gamepass. Both accounts are vinculated by microsoft family members
By using the same Microsoft acount and minecraft acount the error does not happens (the account that owns the Game Pass)
The new Launcher is designed to operate and connect all services from Xbox App and MS store. Therefore, if you are signed-in with different accounts to these apps, the Launcher will bug itself as it is not recommended behavior.

I a getting this problem on windows 11. no game pass any in the loop. i installed java edition in addition to my bedrock edition after 1.19 came out. i played it a bit that evening. i tried to go back in tonight and get this error.
Hello, this error also happened to me but I managed to find a fix.
Here are the steps I did,
I went to the official minecraft website and logged in using my mojang/microsoft account.
Underneath Java Edition I changed my username.
I then went to the minecraft launcher and logged out and back in and it started working again!

Using family plan, was difficult to get the launcher even to recognize. Under child family account was signed into computer and signed into the microsoft store. Within the store, sign out of child profile and back in as adult. Go to Minecraft for PC and Java, should recognize parent account and install. Sign out of Microsoft store and back in as Child. Close both the store and launcher.
That much gets it to recognize the install for Minecraft, but now it won't let us create a Minecraft Java profile for the child account.
If there are specific logs that you require, please let me know.
Ironically I have the reverse problem to Toba da'Great. My son's account went through and is fully operational. It's my account that is at the head of the family tree that is getting this frustrating error.

Same issue here, I have Bedrock Edition on another account, and although it took a few days to show up I now have Java available to play in the launcher on it too, as an option, but when setting up a username it just says "Failed to create profile" really annoying.

I already have a profile on Java. When I first launch the launcher after powering on my laptop, it’ll show “player” as the name and when I click to play the Java variation the pop up to create a profile occurs. Any name I type in prompts another pop up stating failed to make profile. If I close and reopen the launcher where it said “player” it will now correctly display “Ashtodd”.
I cannot create a profile from the launcher. Xbox says I own java edition and bedrock. Is there a way to also create the profile from Minecraft.net? Because there is no option to do it from the web for me. Edit: Sent the report under Technical, Downloads and Instalation. The link posted above redirects to a general bug report. Both my children get the "Failed to create account" error on Java. They both can play Minecraft on Windows and Nintendo Switch. They both have a Microsoft Account.
I am the only one that can launch Minecraft Java successfully. I have searched for a solution online, and someone suggested to unblock all the restrictions from the Microsoft Family options, so I did it, I have removed all restrictions, but they still get the same error.
I have updated every single app in Windows, Microsoft Store, Xbox Companion, Xbox App, etc.
I have tried installing the old Launcher (the one prior to the GamePass version) and Java says "Play Demo".
People from Mojang keep mentioning "try to create the account on Minecraft.net" but there is no such option.
If I login to Minecraft.net with my kids account, it says that they don't own the Java version.
The Windows Store says they don't own the bundle version Windows+Java and asks to buy it or to get GamePass.
I wanted to report this on https://aka.ms/MCLauncherSupport but it is required to use my email account, but my account works fine on Java, I cannot fill the form with my kids information.
Honestly, how hard can it be to fix this problem Mojang? This account situation is a total mess, and my kids are understandably upset because they cannot play with their friends on Java.

The Mojang teams are doing some work to ensure those who bought the game on a given account get access - but at present if someone is playing via a family sharing or device entitlement, they won't be able to play both versions of the game. We're looking into what we can do about that - but that's a longer term effort right now.
But: If you bought the game recently (or even not so recently) on your account, we are working on fixing this problem for you.
Don't know if this will help. Since my last comment a week ago (and I believe since the prior one) I haven't experienced this issue, including tonight upon getting home from work. Everything appears to be functioning as intended. But also to add since I didn't get screenshots of things, I bought bedrock more then 5 years ago as the Windows 10 version.
Additional data I can report is that since 3 days ago the launcher now only says play demo, and my xbox account doesnt show that I own java edition anymore. I hope this is related to eventually fixing the issue, and nothing more. If this behaviour wasn't the intended I wanted to report it so at least you guys know about it. Since I can't reproduce this bug anymore.

If you do own Bedrock outright on your account, they should be able to help you. If, however, you're playing Bedrock under a family sharing structure, then you can't get access to Java at this time, unfortunately.

I bought Minecraft Windows 10 edition yesterday taking in count that I could play JAVA as well with just that buy.
To clarify, I bought it from a web that sells key, and the w10 game itself works fine, there's no issue and everything seems fine. No issue with the redeem, the game shows as mine on the product list and the transaction history.
The steps I did (ON WINDOWS 10) ** (I'm clarifying the OS because the issue was different on macOS. Taking that in count my guess is that there's a problem with some licenses overwriting from serverside, so it's not a client issue)
(HAD MINECRAFT JAVA ED. BEFORE (WITH THE GAMEPASS) AND COULD NOT CREATE A USERNAME EITHER)

Open Minecraft Launcher as I just bought the game, log into the same account I bought it
Click play button, wait, the launcher asks me to create a username, I enter my desired username but the issue occurs

Tried everything I read. Changed all the accounts (Microsoft Store, Xbox App, Xbox console companion) to the one I have Minecraft bought in, updated everything, making sure I have all the necessary components that xbox live requires.
Tried again, did not work, uninstalled everything, making a clean install and trying again. Did not work
Realizing how UNNECESARY is the time people have spent to find out that this is in fact, an error, just because someone is not doing a proper job at Microsoft/Mojang.
Here I am waiting for someone at Mojang/Microsoft to fix this. Don't promise things you can't fully accomplish, I think, we, as consumers. feel kind of... fooled.

Going to Minecraft.net. Felt something a bit odd, the Minecraft.net web only let me buy Minecraft Java, as Bedrock does not exist for macOS (Intel) So I had to download the raw .dmg launcher at the alternative download section
Then log into the microsoft/xbox account I just bought Minecraft in.
How surprised I was it could only let me play the THE DEMO.
Tried uninstalling everything related, again.
Nothing worked

Leewiis it’s because donut is probably either a forum mod like person or a lower level tech support and the place he is mentioning to send the info to are the “higher ups” doing more of the actual work to figure things out. Forum posters are generally “mouthpieces” with exceptions (looking at you ghostcrawler…). So don’t get mad and do as requested. I haven’t had the issue happen again so I didn’t send the email myself. Send the email and with the additional info given to the troubleshooters it might get a fix faster.

The 1.19 is the perfect example of this. Promising things you know you can't accomplish, isn't it fooling us as consumers. Are we "ghostcrawlers" for complaining? it is the most sold game in the earth. I don't think I'm wrong.
I think they are getting really comfy. And as big as the community is getting, it should have more devs working on it. Just a popular opinion.
An email would be sent from a completely different website. This a bug report forum where you’ve been told to send an email to help get more information so the bug dev team can try and recreate the issue to fix it. How about trying to be a little patient while they try and figure it out. Complaining and acting like a jerk isn’t going to help anybody. As I previously said the people commenting from mojang on here are probably just mods and aren’t doing any of the behind the scenes work (again looking at you ghostcrawler). Now I don’t work in IT, nor make games but after playing world of Warcraft for a good 6 years straight and reading those forums, instant gratification isn’t going to happen and sometimes fixes take time (if they can recreate the problem). Speak up, and mention it but be respectful of people. Take a deep breath and go outside.
Now trying to be helpful and it may not work for you. When I’d get the failed to create profile on the launcher. Closing it and reopening it would “fix” the issue and I’d be able to play. Solo player, so no family account, and I’ve only ever had Minecraft for windows 10 (which became part of bedrock). I’ve been able to play Minecraft Java since shortly after 1.19 came out. Maybe that will help you, and if not patients will be the best thing you can do in the meantime.
Actually Greg “ghostcrawler” Street was a developer for World of Warcraft (actual dev) who took the time to get on the WoW forums and interact with fans and try and help. Truth be told I play Minecraft to pass the time and because my kids like it. Not really my type of game. Also being almost 40, I’ve come to realize that fixing bugs in games isn’t going to happen overnight. First they need to recreate it (this comes from having as much information from players experiencing the issue. Which is why a lot of games have a file that saves helpful information like the one donut referenced). Then they need to figure out how to fix it, test it to make sure it didn’t screw something else up, then expand that to a large player base (the snapshots they out out for people) and then go live. Going live can cause issues as well depending on the game, but because of the vast increase in users (probably most affected my mmos, or for Minecraft playing on servers). So don’t need to attack me for trying to point some things a lot of gamers, player bases overlook and throwing in some old school gamer humor into things. Want a company that can’t seem to fix a game that’s had the same bug for years. Try paladins apparently. Not a bad game if you can deal with the bugs and give you something to do while mojang works to try and fix the problem. Yelling and getting mad at them won’t magically solve the problem, especially when talking to a spokesperson (no offense donut. I am making assumptions and don’t know what you actually do).
I am having this exact issue. I signed into a Microsoft account on Nintendo Switch after which I went through the Xbox app having at least twice logged into Minecraft.net with that account and it shows me owning Bedrock Edition with that account. Basically I am able to use and play Windows 10 Edition but only by installing the launcher through the Xbox app. Doing this allowed me to install and play Windows 10 Edtion but not Java Edition. Java Edition says Play but when I attempt to it asks me to "Enter a username for Minecraft: Java Edtion" When I do so it says "Failed to create profile."
I have however noticed that Windows 10 Edition seems to be properly synced to the Microsoft Account. I know it is because it shows the Username where Java Edition says Player. This username even Updated in both the Launcher and on Minecraft.net after I changed it in an attempt to get Java Edition to realize that Bedrock Edition (Windows 10 Edition) is in fact owned by the account and as such should be there. However neither the launcher nor Minecraft.net shows me as having Java Edition despite having Bedrock and it showing through both the Xbox app installed Launcher and Minecraft.net website.
You may notice that I have not said anything about the Microsoft store. That is because nowhere there can I install the Minecraft Java and Bedrock though I can install the launcher. I also installed the launcher through Minecraft.net both Windows 10 version and Windows 7. I own the Launcher in both the Microsoft Store and Xbox App. However I can not just hit get in the Microsoft Store despite being signed into the account which does own Bedrock edition and shows that I own it when signed into Minecraft.net with that Microsoft Account.

Hi My name is Ayan, I will explain everything in details to save our time in future.
My cousin gifted me “Minecraft Java & Bedrock” on around 18 June. I redeemed the code on my main account , lets name this main account that owns the game to be “A”. I logged in “A” in my windows , logged in xbox, downloaded the games as well as the launcher. But I don’t wanna play the game with account A, I wanna play both the games with my other Microsoft account , lets say “B” (B doesn’t own Minecraft but I can play with it as I have logged it in the same device with A). I can play Minecraft Bedrock pretty well with account B logged in but when I try to play java , it asks me to create an username , when I try to make, an error comes saying “Failed to create Profile”.
I want ur help to fix the issue so that I can play java version of Minecraft 😊
Below are the things I have already tried :

All the above things didn’t work! Someone suggested me to make the username unique, so I tried that too but it didn’t work, I tried a lot of unique usernames but same error shows up.
Someone also suggested me to use Minecraft website to create profile but Minecraft web only allows the accounts that “owns” Minecraft to make profile, so I can make profile for my account A (owning mincraft) but not for B (not owning Minecraft ) and again I wanna play with account B not A.
I don’t know what is creating the issue as I am able to play Minecraft bedrock without any issues but Minecraft java is creating issue
I am putting some screenshots of my launcher with and without error and also a log file of launcher. Please ask me for any other detail needed as the last time the support told me “We are investigating ur issue, please wait” and made me wait for 1 week and then today I got an email saying “ as we haven’t heard from you , we are putting your case as resolved”, they didn’t even ask me for any detail and just told me to wait and automatically put the case “resolved” , the issue is still not fixed and thus please help me with it , and feel free to ask for any other details needed 😊

Does that means there no Mojang employee working to find out how to fix this big of a problem? I have not seen a bug in this bug reporting web with this many upvotes and still with many people apporting information and all the files required for them to fix the issue, this issue was first registered at 2021. And we still can't have a game we've have legitimately bought. Just imagine buying a game and not be able to play, spending those savings of you to play that fun game with your family or friends with a great hype, and then find out that you can't create your username and that restrict you from playing, then find out that it's not your fault, we are doing nothing wrong and there's many other people with this same issue!
I wonder what would've happened if this game was in a store like steam, it probably would have a ton of negative reviews, and it would be in the gaming news
We have already waited too long for this, it really doesn't seem much complicated, there's an evident lack of communication between the team working on the launcher, the team working on the website, and the team that manage the Microsoft servers that are hosting the account information and the licenses
exactly, being a student my parents dont allow me to buy games but somehow i managed to get minecraft offically, ( i actually cross traded from roblox) and now i can play bedrock pretty well but cant play java 😞
the minecraft support team told me a week ago that please wait for their reply as they are investigating and after 1 week i get an email saying they closed my case as "they havent heard from me", i provided every file they asked for but nothing is fixed. 😞
There are many people working on this. There are also many reasons this could be happening for you - in order to understand why, we need your launcher_log.txt file and we need you to be connected to a support technician so we can work more closely with you. Whether you wish to engage to find a solution is entirely up to you, but for instance many users find the issue goes away if they try to set their profile name either via mobile or via minecraft.net.
Mojang teams are very much heads down on this issue. The cause right now is very likely different than the cause in whatever issue you see that looks like this from 2021.
Most users are not running into this problem; if they were, it would be both easier to reproduce internally and easier to ensure users don't run into it. Unfortunately, it's a somewhat rare issue, from the standpoint of trying to reproduce the issue - hence why we need to connect more closely to get better information to help solve your specific instance of this problem.
Leewiis: Where did you buy a code from? It sounds like you did not buy from Mojang or Microsoft, am I correct? But instead bought from a third party/non-official keyseller? Because if so - that might be what some of the problem you're facing is caused by.
It happened before I bought the game, it happened as well when I had the game with gamepass (let's count that as official)
Then I ran out of my suscription and decided that perhaps it was an error for having Minecraft with gamepass, but either way of getting the game, it is still happening very firmly, not even a sight of knowing how or why
@Donuts1000 Can I tell the support to take away my Java account because of this problem and give me another Java account? (I have all the transaction Id , payment information and I have Gmail and Microsoft account related to this minecraft account with password). If not, what should I do? If you're running into this:
1) First, definitely submit a note to support; write back here once you have so I can nudge support to ensure we get traction fast.
2) try signing out and back in. Try logging in and setting your profile via minecraft.net/msaprofile - both on a PC and on your phone. All of these things have solved this for some users in the past.
3) There are code updates being rolled out soon that should fix this for most users running into this who are not trying to play via a device sharing or family sharing structure. Hopefully that'll address most of what you are running into.
4) BUT: Family sharing is not going to be solved; if you are accessing the game because Bedrock or Bedrock/Java was bought on a separate account that is sharing access with you, right now you will not be able to use that structure to access Java.
Hey so if i have bought minecraft java and bedrock on some other account, i can't play java on other account sharing access to my pc , like i can do i am bedrock
Hanu214274: Yes, this is true and is not a bug; device entitlements and/or family sharing won't give you access to Java. At present, the only way to get Java access on another account is for that account to also buy the game.

Hello, when will the code update you mentioned be implemented and will my problem be solved? My account is personal and not a family sharing account. My friend got minecraft gift card for my birthday and I redeemed it. Also, I gave my information to support 4 days ago.
One code update was just released, so a percentage of users should find their situation improved. Try logging out and back in, and some users say if they try to create profile on minecraft.net via mobile (disconnected from wifi, apparently), it sometimes is successful and then their problem goes away. We're researching other possible causes for this, however - as noted in the bug description and other comments I've left:

I can't create a profile either.
I am still unable to set profile name of new and paid for account on minecraft website, in my ticket that was marked as duplicate I said :
In the Network section of Chrome's dev tools I can see "403" being returned from "api.minecraftservices.com/minecraft/profile" every time I click on the button to set my profile name, which is why I don't think this is a problem on my end anymore.
This is still the same issue and I've tried on vpn, off vpn, my hotspot wifi and even my school wifi but all are getting 403 from minecraft

Many people are running into this for different reasons. We need to root cause YOUR SPECIFIC reason for running into this.
For context: If you are playing Bedrock under a device entitlement/family sharing structure (e.g., it is owned by a different or parent account, but that account is logged in to your device), then you will not be able to access Java; that's a current limitation of the entitlement system, and at present there's no workaround for this outside of buying the game on the specific account you're using.

Same problem, created MCL-21941, support is almost useless. I've been waiting for 2 months, but progress stands still. For that, a bunch of messages of the same type that the reason is most likely in the game code, as if the launcher I have with an error in the code. And no matter how I sent them a sheet with errors, and did not prove that the problem is in the site, everything seems to be against the wall with my head
Please note: A fix for this that should correct this for all/most impacted users has been rolled out. Please try accessing Java again.
Has this been fixed? My minecraft java still shows no purchases and can't create a profile
One of my accounts is that I purchased a separate minecraft windows before, but now it does not show that I have minecraft java. In the first few days of June 7, it shows that I have minecraft java but cannot create a file. Their solution is to go to the official website to create a file, but My profile also shows no purchases {same now}
My other account is that I found that the first account did not have minecraft java and was a newly created account. I purchased the minecraft bundle, and it also showed that I did not purchase it on the second day, and the official website also did not purchase it.

I'm not sure what images you were trying to attach - but you can upload items to imgur and provide links here, probably. Or just attach images to the bug.

However, if you are playing Bedrock via a Family or Device sharing structure, you will not be able to access Java, unfortunately. That is not supported with the new Java/Bedrock bundle release.
If you're still experiencing this issue then please check if you're signed into the Microsoft store and the Xbox app with the same Microsoft account. If the issue still persists after doing this, please get a full launcher log found in [minecraft/launcher_log.txt|https://minecrafthopper.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder/]
and attach it to the report.

Just got this issue TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME after years of playing - currently on LINUX, on Windows 7 before that.
I am on LINUX - there is no "XBox App" for LINUX as far as I know, and I've NEVER had to use it even when I WAS on Windows.
As far as I know there IS NO "Microsoft Store" for LINUX, and I've never had access to it as I've never played Minecraft on a Windows version that DOES support any sort of MicroSoft Store.
BOTH OF THOSE ARE SPECIFIC TO WINDOWS 10 as of the last time I checked.
I don't HAVE a launcher.log.txt to attach, it does not exist in the Minecraft directory I can find and I have no idea where else to look.

Does this issue still occurs to you on newest version of Launcher?
Have you tried to install Launcher from the minecraft.net website?
Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account?
Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date?
Have you tried to re-registering MS store as written here ?
Do you use VPN or any of the incompatible software on machine you try to log-in?
Could you provide us with more in-depth repro steps?
