The team are working on an issue that causes some players to only see the Demo version available in the updated Launcher.
However, please make sure that you are signing in with your Microsoft account with which your Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription is associated.

Related to some of the "duplicated issues", I owned the java version for a few years and it only let's me play some demo now...

It appears as if the email address I used for my Microsoft account had switched to a different email address,
It recognized a similar Gamertag on my Microsoft account, and had switched them.

Delete the account files in the following folder: %systemdrive%\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\Accounts.
Take a backup copy of %systemdrive%\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings\settings.dat, then delete it.
Sign out of your device, then sign back in.

Part of my problem was due to different Microsoft accounts that I own, however everything works on my end now,
maybe this could be an issue with some of you as well, verify which email address you used to migrate

on my Laptop (on Windows 11) it works perfectly, but on my PC (Windows 10 20H1) it doesn't work ... so it's really the launcher and not my Microsoft account associated with the game (and I use a real account not the Game Pass)

After the update my Microsoft account disappeared completely from my Minecraft Launcher and it only recognizes the XBox stuff... I don't have the game pass and I don't have a XBox, I only set it up because Microsoft forced em to do it, so I can play Minecraft. I cannot switch to my Microsoft Account either, it only let's me do this stupid XBox. Is my account truly lost? Is my game (Java, fully paid for) lost? I can't find anything on Microsoft either and when I log in to Microsoft Minecraft it says that my XBox account doesn't have this game, but it doesn't seem to recognize my Microsoft account. Can someone help me please? I am truly lost here, I loved my world. It is onyl new but I spend so much time in it and it got me through a rough patch that only got resolved in the last few days. Hello, I was redirected to this page as my bug report was seen as a duplicate, even though like Nathaniel, I don't own Xbox Game Pass and have owned my Minecraft Titles for multiple years. I don't believe my issue is a duplicate of this, if this one has been resolved and only affected Xbox Game Pass users. As I still have yet to receive a fix besides using the old launcher.

I purchased the Java Edition from Mojang in 2019
I would go find your transaction id for the game itself sent by email, that way you have it on hand, and go submit a support ticket at Submit a request
Go to Minecraft.net Profile
Note down your Profile Name, and Xbox Gamertag.
This way you can let Mojang know if this isn't being recognized by them.
Try also logging into your account using your old Mojang account information as a Microsoft account.
For those receiving an error code when trying to install the new launcher from the Microsoft store:
Under the "Still Having Problems?" section
Reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 10/11 device:
Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusersIn the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHNInstall the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
Restart your device
Go to Microsoft Store

Hello All! I had this problem with my own account. I had an original account that was then was moved to Microsoft and it was showing play Demo, even though on my other two accounts that have the game pass could play. I noticed that my Xbox icon did not seem to load in the top left corner of the launcher. So when I switched to one of those different accounts and switch back it was fine. It showed up as I could play and opened just fine. I tested it by closing and opening it again and it was completely fine with no problems and haven't had any problems sense. What I did was that when switching accounts, I did it in the launcher. I don't know if it is something wrong with the login system or verifying you own the game. But you can try that.

I've had Minecraft Java Edition for years, at least 6/7 years. I updated to the new launcher and now I no longer have a paid version of Minecraft. I have never had the Xbox Game Pass for PC. I purchased MC. How can we get this fixed??

I have owned Minecraft for a few years now I believe, I am also having this issue after the launcher update/migration issue, I am using the only Microsoft account that I have so there is no possible way that is a contributor, It is a shame that this is robbing everyone of their purchase, I attempted contacting Microsoft but because the purchase was through Mojang before the migration they have no record of the purchase and cannot help me, if t here is a solution I would like to know, but as of now I am still just annoyed that the game I purchased is no longer there.

So it has nothing to do with your Microsoft account, it's the launcher that's bugging, it must be a conflict with another file, but which one...

any update on this as i have same issue, i have gamepass ultimate and says i can either demo, buy or get gamepass to play them, i can install the windows version without the launcher but the launcer still says i dont have them.

If anyone misses their minecraft and wants to play Java (unsure on if this is possible to bedrock) before this is fixed:
Go to minecraft.net/download, sign into your account in the top right, and download Minecraft for Windows 8. This will let you get the old launcher back in case you've already deleted it, and you can play as normal until the issue is resolved.

Having the same issue. Don't give me a solution because I've tried literally every fix since 2 weeks ago. I get "Play Demo" on java, and "Buy Now" on "Minecraft for Windows". This is definitely a launcher issue or migration issue. I'm getting very frustrated though.

To those that are using the minecraft launcher and attempting to play the Java version of minecraft, there is a temporary solution until the updated client is fixed, first you will need to delete your updated launcher and download the older windows 7/8 launcher, it will still prompt you to sign into your microsoft/mojang account and SHOULD allow you to play as long as you already owned the game

I'm having a similar issue, except i don't have gamepass, and when i click login to microsoft account, it just blanks out, in what i assume would've redirected.
Apparently it's marked duplicate, (even though there are different parameters), so I hope the issue gets resolved here!

Might want to try resetting microsoft store cache:
Reset the Microsoft Store cache: Press the Windows Logo Key + R to open the Run dialog box, type wsreset.exe, and then select OK.
Note: A blank Command Prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close and Microsoft Store will open automatically.

Same issue here, although I don't have GamePass (at this point I'd rather prefer a refund than funding this "service"). Only one account, Mojang acc merged with Microsoft, "Unable to connect" error in the launcher and only the Demo is available.

the issue is NOT with the microsoft accounts, the issue lies ENTIRELY with the launcher itself, if you use the windows 7/8 launcher version you should still be able to access your games as long as you log into the correct account, for now i would recommend considering the updated launcher as flawed

I have been fighting with the new launcher for weeks as it says I must purchase the game again. I had previously migrated to a Microsoft account. Just gave up and purchased the game again today, and it will not download, only showing the demo play option.

It has been a long time since I entered the minecraft launcher, today that I opened it, it told me to install a new version that is in the Microsoft Store. I saw the problem when I entered my already migrated account; there I noticed that if it showed me MInecraft for windows 10 but it did not show Minecraft Java.
I am attaching screenshots that if I have opened it in the old launcher but in the new one I do not know that I have bought it.

Same or similar issue - getting a message saying 'Oh no, something went wrong, and we could not connect to the Mincraft services. Try again.'. Have been 'Trying again' for 3 days. Using MS account, migrated successfully, played after migration about 2 months ago. Tried to play 2 days ago, but after new launcher installation, unable to play (except in the demo mode). Switched accounts, changed my password, uninstalled the launcher, reinstalled, all with the same result.

I migrated my account a few months ago and it was working fine with the Minecraft launcher until I installed the new launcher from the Microsoft Store and now whenever I launch the launcher it says that I have not bought Minecraft or Minecraft dungeons when I have both. Luckily I still have the old launcher and it still works just fine. I have tried logging out and logging back in, closing the launcher several times and reopening it, uninstalling and reinstalling it, and it still says I have not bought the game. I also tried changing accounts on the Microsoft Store and nothing. Also I am able to login with my Microsoft account on minecraft.net and minecraftdungeons.net and it says that I own both, while the new launcher still says that I do not. I also tested signing out and back in to the old launcher and it works like normal. The problem is the new launcher.

Same or similar issue as described above: I migrated my account a few months ago and it was working fine with the Minecraft launchers (Java and Win10 ones). but new launcher says that i don't have these games and proposes to buy them or try a demo version. Wanted to give an update that nothing has changed and I still cannot use the new Microsoft Store launcher because it says I haven't bought the games. Old launcher still works.

So I tried to download the old Launcher, and I can't switch accounts... So yeah, Microsoft Minecraft is gone and I have to wait for Christmas and the good money I will get to buy it... Again! So how do I delete this Jira account thingy?

If you have not already contacted Mojang customer support, I strongly recommend you do so. They might be able to help you - and you can potentially provide them with your log file and they might be able to make progress.

ive tried contacting the support and honestly they are bad, the only response i get from them is that am i using the same account as my gamepass ultimate account and no matter how many times ive told them it is the same account they keep telling me to make sure, so its been a month and still no update on this or even acknowledge it on social media

Can you try to install latest Windows updates and update Microsoft Store? * Go to Library and click Update all - it will update all possible applications (Xbox App, Gaming Services, Microsoft Store, Xbox Console Companion etc).
Let us know if that solved the issue.

everything is updated and still cant play java edition at all or windows edition through the launcher, i can still play windows edition with just by launching the app and not the launcher and it reads i have gamepass ultimate, but i cant do that with java as you need the launcher to open java, it seems to be something to do with the mirgation of the account i think

you can confirm it is correct account by checking on minecraft.net
this third issue is separate and needs its own report, but mods and helpers need to stop merging them into this one

I am facing the same problem. I own both editions of Minecraft, but neither can be accessed from the new launcher.
Even the Bedrock edition, which I downloaded directly from the store, has problems logging in. I am using a combination of two Windows 11 computers and two internet connections to verify that it works.
This is just a guess, but I believe it is due to either incompatibility with Windows 11 or changing the email address on my account after purchasing both editions of Minecraft with my Microsoft account.
I have asked Minecraft Help for help, but unfortunately after exchanging a few canned responses, I was only directed to the bug tracker.
What can I do to solve this problem?

I've been bounced around Mojang support for over 2 months regarding this issue. They were finally able to confirm that I own the game, but when asked why I can't confirm it on the Minecraft.net website, they just responded with the same generic dodge over and over again. Multiple computers on different networks all state that I need to buy the game when using the website and new launcher. When I'm using the old Launcher, Java works just fine and confirms my account, but I can't play the windows version.
Please fix this issue before I can't use the old launcher anymore.

@george gafos: And you're using the same email address to try to login to minecraft.net and both versions of the Launcher?
Wait - are you a game pass subscriber, or are you an owner of the game? If you are an owner and it's not recognizing your entitlements, you need to log a NEW bug (or find the right issue in the tracker if one already exists), because that means you're not in the right place here.
Also: Did you speak with Mojang support or Xbox support?

@Donuts1000: You are correct that I own the game. I bought the Java version in 2012 and got the windows version free when Mojang first developed it. With the addition of "Minecraft.net" telling me to buy the game again, this is my exact issue.
I've been working with Mojang support because I don't have the game pass, but windows app store says I own that launcher. It's what I was using for months before this issue started.

Please be sure you're logging in to the launcher with the correct email address that you migrated TO, You need to use the email address you used to migrate or else nothing will look right.
I recommend reaching back out to Support and explaining that you were incorrectly sent to the bug base when you appear to have an account issue. They can resolve account issues, and ensure that if this is an account issue it gets dealt with.

I changed my primary Microsoft login several months ago for security reasons and after reactivating my original e-mail address, like you said, it started working again. I didn't notice the error until I tried to play cross platform last month and found this headache.
So as far as you know, is there any way to change that e-mail without losing everything or having to purchase the game again? I can reach out to Mojang support too, but they have not been as helpful as you. They've been providing the same boilerplate response for the past week.

I had this problem too, seems like it has to do with the computer, because I bought a new computer and now it works fine, but obviously, they have to fix it, you can't go buying PCs to play a game you have already paid for.

this might not be a launcher related issue, it might be more of a microsoft issue. ive been having this problem since getting gamepass and i had to login into my acc from my laptop every time i tried to play on my pc.

every time i tried to login in the website it says my java account name was Unknown, but after setting it up on the skin tab it said i already had it
after loging in it says i own the game both in the site and the launcher now, and the skin tab shows my skin.
the same launcher error happens on the my linux pc, but there even after logging in it says the game is not owned, i have to force login on my laptop, and i strongly believe that this might not be a launcher issue.
really hope there is a fix soon for this since its quite annoying having to do that every time i want to play

I have the same issue. I can't play the Java version using the new launcher and I also can't play the Windows 10 version. I have the same exact problem when trying to use the new launcher to play either version. I have also double checked to make sure I'm logged into the right account. I even tried all the listed troubleshooting methods.

New build (just pushed to beta) should include the fix to this in the new launcher.

An update on things. The new Microsoft Store launcher works perfectly fine BUT only on a different computer which really doesn't help that much. I tried the beta build that was pushed out and it now allows me to play the Bedrock version of the game(hooraayy!) but it still shows Java edition and Minecraft Dungeons as unowned. So progress but still not there. I do not want to try uninstalling the old launcher as I do not want my years of game data to be wiped(if there is a way to do so without losing any data then that would be great) so unfortunately I can't uninstalling the old launcher and reinstalling the new one. A workaround for Java Edition is that I can go through the instillations tab and play that way but I am unable to play Dungeons using the new launcher because there is no option like that.

The fix is out on the Release channel; try switching back to full release and see if it helps. If you still are unable to play Java and should be able to, Tobias, please comment back here so I can check into it.
ALSO: Checked into it and uninstalling the Launcher SHOULD no longer remove your .minecraft folder, so you should be safe to uninstall and reinstall. HOWEVER: to be extra safe, please do backup your .minecraft folder! And then uninstall and reinstall the Launcher. Strong recommendation to try doing so to resolve this issue for you.
And then copy/paste the files into your new/actual .minecraft folder once reinstallation is completed.

Is this issue the same for people who have purchased the game outright and not using game pass? I’m still not able to access it unless I use the old version of the launcher.

The fix just rolled out should fix the problem for Game Pass subscriber users in particular. If you outright own a game and the new Launcher is not reflecting that reality, it's possible your entitlements cache is in an invalid state. You should be able to force the entitlements to refresh by logging out of the Launcher and logging back in, which should hopefully address your issue.

And just to confirm: upon reinstallation it required you to re-login, and you logged in using the same email/password you're otherwise using to login to the other "old" Launcher version where things look fine? Just want to be sure you force a re-login.

Just tried it, uninstalled the launcher and re install and still says play demo, even though I am signed in on Microsoft account that has ultimate, I can still download the bedrock version from the store, it would just be easier to make the java version on the store instead of only the launcher
