Mojang Studios Note
This site intended for bugs so we can't really help you out here with account problems. With that said you might be running into this situation because you have a wrong active account. Try these steps:
For players acquiring access to our games via PC Game Pass:
If your subscription has ended, then this is expected behavior. You can view and update your subscription on account.microsoft.com
If you still have an active PC Game Pass subscription, see MCL-19984. Otherwise:
Locate the receipt sent to the email that was used when purchasing the game (Minecraft: Java Edition or Minecraft Dungeons)
Use this email account to sign in to Minecraft Launcher:
For Minecraft Dungeons (Windows 7/8/10), Minecraft: Java Edition (purchased after December 1, 2020) or recently migrated accounts, sign in using your Microsoft Account.
For Minecraft: Java Edition (unmigrated & purchased before December 1, 2020) you sign in using your Mojang Account.
If you have several accounts, you can sign in with all of them in Minecraft Launcher. Click Settings, and Accounts, and there you can add additional accounts
Make sure you have internet connection and are connected to Minecraft Services (you do not see a gray info message at the bottom of Minecraft Launcher saying otherwise)
Make sure you switch to the account that you own the game on (in the top-left corner of the launcher)
After migrating your account make sure you've logged in with your new Microsoft account. To do this log out of the launcher, click 'go back' and select the 'Microsoft Login' button.
You can also sign in on our website to verify that you own the game:
For Minecraft: Java Edition sign in on https://www.minecraft.net/
For Minecraft Dungeons sign in on https://www.minecraftdungeons.net/
Still an issue? Read our help article: Can only play Minecraft demo (Java Edition)
Even so, you still have a problem? Please contact Customer Support and provide proof of your purchase and what account you are using (Microsoft or Mojang, and the email address)
We are working on a solution for this issue. In the meantime, if you are facing this problem, please try using the previous version of Launcher, available on minecraft.net/download as the Launcher for Win7/8
I bought je by code to microsoft account.
If I go into the purchase window, it says I've already purchased it.
but at launcher, there's only demo.

Then where should I ask?
I didn't get an email.

Customer Support should be able to assist you. Did my steps not work for you?

I put in an inquiry, and I got a link to the answer right away. It looks like this link.
But I couldn't access the link, so I put the inquiry back in, but I got the same answer. Is the answer coming back later again?
You can also see this article as well for steps to potentially fix this problem. 🙂

Our customer support has a high volume of tickets currently to process, so it might take a while before you get an answer. I'm afraid we can't say when. Hope you get it solved with their help!

It is not solution.
Give my money back!
If the instructions in the box above don't help, please contact Customer Support. Same thing if you want a refund.
New Minecraft: Java Edition accounts and migrated Mojang accounts are now linked to Microsoft accounts and you will use that Microsoft account to log in to your account. Mojang accounts are not available to be created or used for these new Java Edition accounts. Please make sure you are using the correct login option and the correct Microsoft account that was used during the purchase or migration process.
If you purchased after Dec 1st, 2020, or have migrated your Mojang account to a Microsoft account, and are having any issues logging in make sure you sign in using the Microsoft account option and not the Mojang account login option, as Mojang logins are only for accounts purchased before Dec 1st, 2020 or accounts that have not migrated yet.
If you are seeing the Demo mode unexpectedly it is likely that you need to sign in with your Microsoft account:

If you have already started to sign in, you can go back and then try and add / sign in with your Microsoft account:

I have the exact same problem after migrating my account to Microsoft. Now my launcher says that I can only play in the demo version. As you already know, after the migration, you can't log in via the Mojang account anymore, so it means that I went back and logged in via my Microsoft account.
One thing to mention though is I did my transaction via my first email address which obviously was linked to my Mojang account back then. However, I had no Microsoft account with that email address, and I migrated using my second email address which had a Microsoft account linked with it. I think the problem is somehow is related to this.
I've been talking to one of the agents in customer support within the past week to solve the problem. But they finally referred me here. Please don't refer me back to the customer support services. Thanks!
Hello @unknown,
I think what Customer Support might have meant is that you should try to follow the steps provided in the moderator note at the top and see if that resolves your issue.
In any case, we on the tracker do not have any kind of tools that allow us to access your account and resolve potential issues with it, so we will unfortunately not be able to help you any further than this.
So please try to see if the steps mentioned above resolve the issue for you, and otherwise please reply on your support ticket once more.
Sorry for the inconveniences.

Thanks for your reply @NeunEinser. I've read the moderator note and although the hyperlink in the 7th step does not show anything to me (as I've shown in the attachments of this comment), I've done the steps mentioned and I'm still unable to fully play the game.

Also, it seems that this issue and all its duplicates are being tagged as "resolved". To my knowledge, this issue has not been resolved since I'm still faced with this problem after 2 weeks of migration. Please don't tag issues falsely. Thanks.
@unknown Thanks for pointing out the broken link on the moderator note. This has now been fixed!
As for the resolution of the reports, this is a bug tracker and so we try to make sure that we don't have multiple reports describing the same issue. For that reason all the reports describing a situation where you can only play the demo have been merged into this one, hence the resolved (duplicate) resolution.

I had the same issue after i migrated my Minecraft account, i have contacted the Mojang support and they gave me some useless troubleshooting steps, none of them worked and the problem is on their side!
I've tried to login to my Microsoft account with my laptop, friend's pc, own pc you name it!
they told me that they have reported this issue to the internal team, but i don't think they are working on it alot
its been weeks and they just tell me that if there's an update they will respond to my mails
the only thing we can do is to keep on mailing them over and over so they can know we really want our account back and they should look in to it more and fix it faster, i know its annoying but its the only way

i just had this game for a month and i was loving it but here i am trying to get back my account that i have fully paid for 😞

The problem for my case persists. No fix mentioned by the customer support or here at the moderator note could help solve the problem. I'll be doing this every once in a while in hope of a fix!

The MC launcher still does not communicate with the services and is available only on demo mode! V.1.17.1

Same problem here... but in MacOS.
The answer from the support team was tu look for help here 😞
I can only play the demo and it's been a month

I keep getting sent here, but it's not related to my problem. My problem is that I can't play offline because it wants me to sign in, but when I'm away from wifi, obviously I cannot sign in. So I literally cannot play offline unless I am online...which would make it online....which means that Offline does not exist
@unknown, I think that's filed under MCL-19645

Get sent here from CS just to find that my issue needs to be resolved with them not here. This company is painfully difficult to work with.

same problem, still isn´t fixed

Maybe it's a bug related to the new launcher that has been reported a lot lately, try downloading and using the old launcher?

I was struggling with this for ages, until I noted that my Microsoft account was under a different email address than my Mojang account used to be. After I went into my Microsoft account and added an extra email address (the one I had used with Mojang), then after that, the full version became available through the Microsoft Launcher as well as the old Launcher.
Can't believe how hard it was to figure that out. Hope this info helps someone else out there!

After migration, the running launcher continued to use stale data / display format. After closing the launcher and running it again, the display was correct and I was able to play the full Java version of the game.
Suggestions: Find a way for the migration activity to either refresh the launcher or force it to close and reload. Also notify players that they should rerun the launcher manually if it doesn't happen automatically.

I still can't access the Java version of the game I paid for before being transferred over to the main account and following all the steps. When attempting to go back to the older launcher it still doesn't work for the Microsoft or Mojang half of the account.
Says I own it in the Mojang that should be the Microsoft side of the game however it just doesn't let me go to the Mojang account.

Anyone running into this problem: We need your launcher log file attached to this bug from your .minecraft folder. There are several other bugs open for this issue and we've been tracking it elsewhere - but please attach your launcher log file here so we can figure this out.
ctr17163: I don't know what you mean by "main account." I need a very clear description of what you're running into so we can figure this out (what is the "Microsoft" vs the "Mojang" half of your accounts?). Mojang accounts should be at a required migration state so you might just have to migrate that to a microsoft account to make anything work. Mojang accounts can't be used anymore.

I started experiencing this issue yesterday. I migrated my Mojang account 2 months ago. Been playing quite a bit since no problem. Then went to play last night and only gives me the "Play Demo" option. I wrote Mojang customer support including my Transaction ID but no response. I have 3 other accounts that are OK. Kids were able to play last night. This is poor, no way to put it.

Ok, I want to get you more direct support if you're encountering this. Please report a support case so that we can have a closer look at your problem. You can do that here: https://aka.ms/MCLauncherSupport
Please start that support ticket with the following text: "Reporting from MCL-16570 to provide the requested information". This is so that our support team can find you easily and forward that to us.
Then include screenshots of the launcher, the launcher_log.txt file (from this location on your PC: %appdata%\.minecraft ) , your Xbox Gamertag, and information on how you own Minecraft Java and/or Bedrock. Was it a direct purchase on minecraft.net or by game pass?

Submitted the info you requested. Didn't get a confirmation email or acknowledgement so hope it worked. If I sign in to "www.minecraft.net/" and check some of the links it is not showing I own the game. I've played several times since MS account migration.

@max81122:
Are you saying the account you bought Java with cannot play Java, or your kids' accounts are unable to play Java via a family sharing situation?
Maybe related but probably not, but still: Please ensure you have this application installed and are logged in to this as well:
Xbox Console Companion: https://aka.ms/XboxConsoleCompanion

Issue is only affecting one account. Other accounts can play normally over LAN. I used to be able to play on LAN after the migration too; did so many times. Since Friday MC Java says "Play Demo" and I can't play.
MC isn't expensive and I am tempted to just buy another copy to solve this. But at this point I have little confidence that the other accounts won't experience this issue. And days go by before it gets fixed. Really disappointed here. What's going on with MC these days? I bought 3 copies MC Dungeons for multiplayer play on the Nintendo switches in the family. Works but constant crashes; it's a well known issue.

Any update on my case? I really would like to play today (Friday). A week has gone by.
I received an auto confirmation email on Tuesday from "Minecraft Help <[email protected]>" that the issue is being worked on, but nothing further since.

Got tired a waiting for POOR customer service. If it wasn't for all the time and history I spent with this game I would not have done it, but playing with my family means more to me than $30. I bought another license. It works now, no thanks to Mojang's and MS's. Their response, "you can play MC now? Yeaeeee!".
But this is the last Minecraft game I will be buying though. With this issue and the constant crashes of MC Dungeons, I have no confidence in your products working like they should.

Would be nice to actually have some support with this bug , It appears that microsoft or mojang did some change 2week ago , Because i used to play on mc with the exact same account and out of nowhere it say that i don’t own minecraft? why? Also tagging it as resolve when everyone say that it not in comments! I don’t understand why we dont get more attention, literally 50% of the people who are buying the game and try to play can’t because of the bug. At 40$ and wait 2week without any response it should be the minimum to try something!

@max81122: I've pinged customer support on your behalf and sounds like there was a migration problem/confusion and hopefully they're clearing up your account question.
@Gabriel22000: Please log a customer support ticket so we can figure this out, because every user's situation is unique:
You can do that here: https://aka.ms/MCLauncherSupport
Please start that support ticket with the following text: "Reporting from MCL-16570 to provide the requested information". This is so that our support team can find you easily and forward that to us.
Then include screenshots of the launcher, the launcher_log.txt file (from this location on your PC: %appdata%\.minecraft ) , your Xbox Gamertag, and information on how you own Minecraft Java and/or Bedrock. Was it a direct purchase on minecraft.net or by game pass?

@Jord0014: I don't see any ownership over Bedrock Edition or Java when I look. When did you migrate? And is it possible you accidentally migrated to a different email address? Let's consider some options & figure this out.

I was sent here from minecraft support. I get an error when trying to log into minecraft.net with my microsoft account "OOPS! We could not validate your access, please try to login again." which is shown again upon clicking the log in button. It's the one associated with my java edition account and the same email as the one I used to log in here. I am able to log in with said account on the minecraft launcher. But upon logging in to the launcher it constantly switches between looking normal and saying that I'm offline. Here is a copy of my launcher logs
I didn't have any problems with playing minecraft or logging in until the outage on Nov. 8, 2022. I haven't been able to play since that day. I've been communicating with minecraft support and can provide the support request number if wanted. They haven't been helpful, suggesting that I stop using wifi when I'm not or to install microsoft software onto my linux computer. And I think they are done providing any additional support. I will keep sending them messages though.
Hi, it sounds like you got some account issues! This site intended for bugs so we can't really help you out here, but try these things:
1. Locate the receipt sent to the Microsoft Email that was used when purchasing Minecraft: Java Edition
2. Use this email to sign in to Minecraft Launcher
3. if you have several accounts, you can sign in with all of them in the launcher. Click Settings, and Accounts, and there you can add additional Microsoft Accounts
4. Make sure you switch to the Microsoft account that you own the game on
5. You can also sign in on minecraft.net to verify that you own the game
Hope this helps you get your issue solved!
