Ive owned minecraft for a while and ive never used the minecraft launcher to launch minecraft since i migrated my mojang account to a microsoft account, and now that i want to, i can only launch the demo. And when i check my owned games on my microsoft account in minecraft.com, it doesnt say i own minecraft java edition, but i can still play minecraft on that account on lunar client. Its messed up and im trying to use mods with my friends but the launcher wont work, can someone please help me?

Didn't work for me.

I have managed to get the game working properly. Not sure if it is intentional or not, but I can only launch the game correctly using the Xbox app, with that open just select the Minecraft Launcher from the list, it will then launch up and voila, you will have access to the full game for both platforms.
Mojang / Microsoft - if this is not an intentional workflow, I would say this bug is not resolved and should remain open, however if this is intentional, I would suggest advertising that this is the way to do things, so users know, as I found this out without the help of any staff at either of your companies.

I am also having this issue. I've attached my launcher_log.txt file, and a screenshot of the launcher login screen - my microsoft account name and profile icon are missing/broken. Removing and adding the account does not help.

It hasnt been working for me either - At first it only allowed me to play offline mode - but then when i tried logging out and logging back in - it just says that i dont own minecraft - i tried everything - re-installed the launcher - i had been using the launcher from the MS Office, so there was no issue there - but still it showed the same thing

Close the launcher
Open Xbox Companion App (not the Xbox app, though that may also work)
Sign in to the account you're using in the launcher in the Xbox Companion App. You do not need to do anything minecraft-related in the app, just sign in to the app itself directly.
Relaunch the launcher
It needs to be the Xbox Console Companion app specifically. Even though I was signed into the more modern Xbox app, I was not signed into the older XCC app. Once I signed in and opened the launcher back up, it showed as being online and Play Demo was replaced by Play. I hope this helps someone else.

It just says "We couldn't sign you in to Xbox live".
Edit: Nvm, I managed to get it to work after I came back, and it worked like a charm!! Thank you for the fix! I wasn't able to play on the original Minecraft client for like 1 year.

This was fixed a month ago then the "Failed to create profile" bug happened & is still unsolved to this day then this "Play demo" button bug came back after an MCLauncher update. Seriously?

Still can't play the game

For me, it happened like this:
I bought Minecraft yesterday both Java and Bedrock in a pack. But after I got the Minecraft launcher installed I could only play the demo, even after logging in to the Microsoft account I bought on, at the launcher. Is there anything that I can do to fix it?

The old launcher for Java edition works for me, but this happens for me in the Xbox console app thing for Windows. So perhaps you guys can try switching back to the old launcher.

I recommend installing Xbox console companion and Xbox identity provider nonetheless, even if you boot the Launcher from Xbox app or MS store, and remember to restart your computer.

For me, Minecraft was working fine Sunday night (5 November) when I shut down the client.
Monday early afternoon (Pacific time) I try to log in to get this issue (red error "can not verify ownership" and the "alternate between play online and play" buttons).
I have tried a from-scratch remove and re-install with the Mojang.net ".msi" and with the MinecraftLauncher.exe BOTH - they both download an "update" then show identical behavior to before I did the re-install.
I do not have the OPTION of "install XBox console" stuff as you mention - those do not exist AT ALL for Windows 7.
I also have never had any need for these prior to now.
"Game pass" did not exist when I bought Minecraft, as far as I know - in fact, this is the first time I have heard OF "game pass", whatever it is.
My purchase was 2 counts, both via a "Minecraft Card" from Walmart.

I may have found the key to this issue.
From the last time I ran the launcher log, the very first 4 lines:

It looks like someone messed up, and added these to required dependencies with the 462 version of the WINDOWS 7/8 LAUNCHER on minecraft.net - even though THEY DO NOT EXIST for Windows 7/8 - or someone messed up and tried to replace the Windows 7/8 launcher with the Windows 10 launcher, which flat out does not WORK under older Windows versions.
IMO roll back the Windows 7/8 launcher, or "patch it back" in the automatic update, 'til this issue is FIXED, as those applications do not exist for Windows prior to 10 AND THEREFORE CAN NOT BE USED AS REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES.

Ya I'm having this happen now too. Have been playing for 2 weeks with friends on a private server and now it wouldn't let me on server with the failed username error. So I tried logging out of launcher - a bad mistake that made it worse, as now even when logged in it's saying to check internet connection and that I don't have MC bought. I've had Minecraft since 2011, and my connection is running at 340Mbps/60Mbps download/upload. I keep restarting it, restarted computer and tried updating, and nothing has worked

I am having the same issue. My launcher was working the night of 11/17/22 but as of last night and again this morning, my launcher keeps giving me an issue saying:
"Oh no! Something went wrong, and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services."
This issue goes away and comes back approximately once every 5-7 seconds. Additionally, I am getting an error in the top right stating that the launcher is unable to verify what products I own. The "play" button is also cycling between "Play" and "Play Offline". I am able to launch the game, however it will either launch into the "play demo" screen or will launch me into the normal screen but will not allow me to launch any worlds or join any servers.
I have tried:
-relaunching the launcher several times
-logging out and logging in several times
-uninstalling the Minecraft launcher and reinstalling
-Restarting my internet (not the issue but worth a shot, I am watching YouTube, talking on discord, hosting a Minecraft server for 4 of my friends, and browsing this forum all on the same PC)
-Restarting my PC
Launcher Version 2.3.462-1.1.28
Game Version 1.19.2

it seems we are SOL until someone finally tells us a fix or update the launcher instead of saying the same thing about "install xbox companion blah blah crap" THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM!

I was frustrated with the same logic, but since they made a fix via update on twitter, it should work. It is stated however that if you still have trouble, continue with the bug tickets and get a staffs attention.

If you are running into this issue, please attach your launcher_log.txt file to this bug - from this location on your PC: %appdata%\.minecraft
And then also attach your Xbox Gamertag.
The problem is we cannot replicate this internally, and we don't have your machines, so there's very little we can do without getting more information from you.
For instance - from the one log attached - the entitlements are not coming back at all. I believe there was a service outage a couple days ago which might have been behind this but there are other potential causes.
Some possible solutions:
1) Install the basic stuff: But if you're still running into this, the first best thing to do is still to install the Xbox apps so they can try to fix your system in an automated way:
Xbox App: https://aka.ms/DLXboxApp
The Xbox App in particularly will give you some useful feedback if you have some services that aren't running! Console companion is next best.
Xbox Console Companion: https://aka.ms/xcc
Make sure windows is up to date - basic, but worth checking. Run windows update, make sure it can run and complete any necessary installations.
If you've tried this before and it didn't work, it's possible you have a service installed but disabled.

99% of people running into what you're running into (entitlements failing to come back from server) are doing so because of one of these things now working right.
If you've tried each of these steps and are still running into this problem, please CLEARLY state that you have tried EACH of these steps and also please attach your launcher log file + Gamertag so we can keep working on this.

You say to check Task Manager to make sure services are running - BUT YOU NEVER STATE WHICH SERVICES are to be checked for!
Also, in one of my "try to fix the issue via reinstall" attempts, possibly when I was using the launcher beta version to try to reinstall, I saw a brief error message (didn't hang round long enough for me to READ IT!) that mentioned a filename "javalib.dll" - but I can't find any such filename or even close to it anywhere in the Minecraft installation files OR in /system OR in /system32
I wonder if that file got deleted by the 2.3.481 update for some reason, but the 2.3.462 launcher insallation doesn't install it though it's needed?
I am NOT 100% sure that is the entire filename, give how briefly the error message popped up, it might be longer. I AM certain it was a ".dll" file starting in "java" and pretty sure it had "lib" as part of the name.

NONE OF THOSE EXIST FOR WINDOWS 7 (or any other version of Windows prior to Windows 10).
Never have been a requirement for the Launcher, at least prior to your short-lived "2.3.481" broken launcher you pulled very quickly over other issues (I can't speak to that version, as it never worked for me in the short time it was available).
Those apps CAN'T be a requirement for Minecraft under Windows 7 or Windows 8.x and the applicable launcher, as they do not EXIST (and Microsoft has indicated zero intent to CREATE them for older Windows versions).

I'm not sure what you mean by a "gamertag". Is that the QuintLeo6395 thing?
For reference - issue persists in the current 2.3.508 Beta, that I tried a "fresh install" on today.

And with ZERO changes from my last posting, the launcher is now WORKING.
This appears to have been a Mojang/Microsoft SERVER issue all along - appears to have been with the servers that deal primarily with Oregon and Washington, per the commentary I've read tonight - and the several comments of "use a vpn to a different region, it now works" I've seen tonight in my continued digging into the issue.
Don't bother pointing to that USELESS twitter feed y'all have - it doesn't say ANYTHING 90% of the time when you ARE having a server issue.

Please try again - the service was down for a bit; it might be functioning again. If you're still having this problem, please comment here and additionally consider submitting an issue via Feedback Hub on your PC.

Per my experience, the services appear to have been down starting on November 7 and lasting for most of the next 3 WEEKS, on the Minecraft servers that deal with folks from Washington and Oregon (lots of comments about that in various places from MANY users).
And the suggested fixes DID NOT ADDRESS THE REAL ISSUE AT ALL, nor were they viable for the many of us that do not play Minecraft on a Windows 10/11 system and never have.
The timing match with the release of the broken 2.3.481 launcher now appears to have been coincidence.

I don’t think this is a PC break/fix issue. The game needs to be programmed to check a license server to see if your email is in the license database. Once the check is complete and license is verified, then the full version is unlocked. Done

That is what happens. Some users are failing to be able to query the entitlements correctly; if you supply your log file, I can point out where in your file it says "failed to get entitlements" or something along those lines. There are a few potential reasons for this that can be fixed by different actions, depending on what's going on.

this also affects the account that was created after this migration from mojang to Microsoft, for those who only have Minecraft, like me, I only have Minecraft for windows and I was affected, even my account being from Microsoft.

This is happening to me aswell but for both java and bedrock. Here is some info:
Also as you can see in the screenshot, the Minecraft websites says I already bought bedrock, but the launcher says differently.
When I migrated the Mojang account, it automatically said that I had java but, now it says I do not.
My bedrock username is SirPuffFish
My Java username is StewartToussaint
I currently play on the Windows 11/10 launcher, running Windows 11.
I bought java in 2013-14 on a Mojang account migrated to the current Microsoft account i play on
I bought Bedrock in 2017-18 on my current Microsoft account.
I continuously played on both versions until 12/12 but, on 12/13, the Minecraft launcher said that I have not bought both versions. I tried a lot of ways to fix it ie reinstalling, logging out.

This is still happening to me. I've been emailing back and forth with the support team trying to resolve this and they recently pointed me here. I seem to be having a similar issue. On top of the only internet access I have at the moment is cellular data through a VPN. Only additional information I have is mine started out not having the play demo option and just saying that it could not verify what products I own.

Installing the Xbox app is a first big recommendation, for instance.

Yes i went through all the steps listed in this post and more as directed by the support team. After being pointed to this post I also sent in my Launcher_Log.txt to them as mentioned in here.

Looking through my Launcher log for entitlements error i find
" Failed to get entitlements for account. Error: 16 "

any updates on this issue? im still locked out of my account. frankly ridiculous that an issue that makes the game unplayable for many people has not been dealt with.

The final email said effectively there was nothing they could do at the moment and I would need to just watch this issue on here for a solution. That was months ago, thus my over irritated comment. If I should open up a new bug report I will but I don't want to just be bounced back and forth

I bought Minecraft Bedrock but the launcher says I didn't, I restart the launcher, and my computer. I even erase the launcher and dowland again, and nothing. I know i own the game 'cause i got the confirmation of the purchase in my e-mail and the minecraft page says that i own the game. I use the same account in the launcher and in the minecraft page.
I want a REAL SOLUTION not someone who redirect me to anoter issue than doesn't even have a solution.
