I have the exact same problem, the new update (2.2.7447) didn't fix anything.
The comment in MCL-19984 is irrelevant in my case because it's about a problem with the windows store, which I don't have since I'm on Windows 7.
Everything works fine with alternative launchers.
With wireshark, I see failed attempts to connect to 13.107.43.15 when the launcher start, accessing this IP in a web browser lead to a page stating that "Our services aren't available right now".

After diagnosing the issue with community support, it appears that the problem was in my case out-of-date SSL certificates on my system.
It can be witnessed on the launcher logs, with the following message :
NetQueue: Action failed with result "schannel: failed to receive handshake, SSL/TLS connection failed" (35) : title.mgt.xboxlive.com
Installing KB3125574 fixed the issue.
All troubleshooting guides and tips did not work for me either. I have tried several times now to log in and while I can log into my account on the launcher I run into the same problem everyone else has. When using the new launcher I get the same screen. Additionally I get a message that says can't connect to Minecraft services. I check the Microsoft store and it says I own the game. I check my account on Mojang and it says I own the Java version. If I try to log into the Windows 10 version without using the launcher it acts like it's logging me in but stays stuck on the logging into your Microsoft account message.
So, coincidentally this was made the same day as I opened my ticket with Minecraft Support who essentially gave up and directed me here. I did not find this "issue" when searching, so mine was closed as a duplicate: MCL-20976
"After going back and forth for 47 days with Minecraft Help they directed me here. Essentially, when I log into anything but the new launcher it correctly shows that I own the Java version of the game. When I log into the new launcher it never properly authenticates with your servers and I am unable to play/use it. My bandwidth also inexplicably bottoms out whenever the launcher is open."
I initially purchased java Minecraft back in 2012. Since then I've bought it on both XBox360 and PS4, I am now realizing that I missed a window on claiming a bedrock version based on my original purchase date (awesome) so I'm staring down the barrel of purchasing this game a 4th time even though I was told my original copy was good forever at purchase and I CAN'T EVEN DO THAT BECAUSE THE LAUNCHER WON'T WORK. It has now been exactly 90 days since my original support ticket was opened (also since this post was made).
I just want to play the game with a friend who does not have a good enough PC to play Java. When is someone going to take a serious look at this issue and resolve it? I have already spent hours of my time sending emails, running tests, taking screenshots, looking through files, and sharing all of that with various teams. How much time has been spent by the engineering team to resolve this? Is this even on the bug fix roadmap? Can we get some kind of tangible update after 90 days? Please?
Same here.
Since yesterday, i cant login anymore.
but only with the microsoft-login. all my mojang-accounts are still working.
please fix it.
Please see WEB-5634 if you're experiencing this issue whilst using windows 7/8.
Having the same issue, getting this error on the newest launcher. But it's working just fine on the windows 7/8 launcher. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and signed out completely and back in and still getting same message.
Shelby: Would you attach your log file here? Having that will help us figure out how to solve your problem. Without it, it's quite difficult to say what's going on.
Just to confirm, that's the entire Logs folder? there looks to be a couple text documents in .minecraft that have "log" in the name as well separate from that folder.
file is uploaded. It says system is windows 10, but I have windows 11 on my desktop. Hope that helps
Shelby, one more question - can you tell me what games you own so I can be sure what should/shouldn't be showing up?
Thank you - sorry, probably more questions coming. But: And so will you confirm that the new launcher doesn't seem to know that you own Java OR Bedrock? I.e., that it's in an incorrect state in relation to BOTH games?
No it can't connect to Minecraft servers and therefore it says I don't own the game (for Java because I only have this one)
Has anyone having this problem tried wsreset? Might not address the issue, but it might:
Press the [Win] + [R] keys on your keyboard simultaneously, enter "WSReset" in the window that comes up, and confirm with [Enter]. Then try re-installing/re-running.
It's worth noting that I've had this issue plaguing me for some time as well. Just used the Win7/8 launcher until today. The issue appears to be related to MCL-20981 and I was able to resolve my issue by roughly following the steps mentioned by @@unknown. I had to actually install the XBox app. Signing into that didn't appear to resolve the issue, but going to 'Apps & Features' in the Windows Settings, finding Minecraft Launcher, and hitting the 'Repair' button seemed to do the trick for me.
I'll also add that while I can use the old launcher, usually when I open it for the first time in a day it will crash 1 or 2 times before it actually opens.
It's been persistent since at least November and doesn't affect all users, so I expect that is extremely unlikely.
Is anyone running into this using the new launcher or only the older Launcher? The log file attached appears to be for a user running the older launcher.
Would be helpful if you are still experiencing this to call out your OS & Launcher version you are running.
If you are running the new Launcher, please open it and then close it after a minute or two, and upload your launcher log file here so we can try to make some progress on this. And do NOT open the other version of the Launcher between steps because it will overwrite your log file.
Also: if you're running into this problem, this may or may not help:
In Launcher click "Settings"
Click the "Accounts" tab
Click the "Advanced Options" option at the bottom to open it
Click the "Clean up cached account tokens" option
@Donuts1000
I tried the cached account token cleanup and there is no change. For what it's worth there's nothing to indicate (that I saw) if clicking the button actually did something, but I clicked it multiple time and relaunched multiple times with no changes.
Also, from what I see in the description and various comments here it is very much a problem with the new launcher. The old one works fine for me and I have been using it to play Java, thankfully. The old launcher just doesn't let me play the Windows/Bedrock version. All the information/screenshots I gathered are on my closed ticket here: MCL-20976
I've uploaded the log file here as well
Update released in Beta channel today that might resolve this. Fingers crossed. Setting to resolved in spirit of optimism.
EDIT: Re-opening because I'm doubtful this will fix for all impacted users. If this issue is resolved for you in the Beta channel, please comment here.
I had to remove my Microsoft account from my local Windows account and add it again, I ran wsreset.exe to reset Microsoft Store, used Powershell commands to remove Minecraft and all the XBOX stuff and then I reinstalled it. Then, I signed into the XBOX app, installed the launcher and everything worked fine. It seems that something was wrong with logging into my Microsoft account and doing this fixed it.
It should be resolved on the production/release channel.
However, you may need to reinstall the Launcher and/or run wsreset to reset the microsoft store to correct your state.
I'm still not able to log in to either java or bedrock after trying wsreset, uninstalling and reinstalling everything
Shelby: Are you saying the Launcher is showing Play Demo / Play Trial for Java / Bedrock, respectively? Or you can't sucessfully load either game?
Previously you said you were seeing "Play Demo" - did anything change, or is that still the case? And either way: Did you migrate recently? And I presume you've double checked that you're signed in to the Microsoft Store with the same microsoft account you're using to sign in to the Launcher?
Assuming all this is true and as you say you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Launcher itself as well - we might need a new log file. And it's possible this is something support might be ableto fix, depending on what it is.
Yes, it's still showing the demo/trial on the new launcher. I'm still able to play Java on the old launcher. But I can't load bedrock at all. I've even tried subscribing to the game pass and that still didn't give me access to bedrock. And even when I try to play a demo, it won't sign in with my account it will just load forever. After about 10 minutes of waiting I closed it completely. I've signed out and back in, and reset the microsoft store twice as well as uninstalling all launchers and bedrock and reinstalling. The only thing I can do is play Java with the old launcher.
Shelby - that's very strange. Would you try running the new launcher to ensure it generates a new log file and attach a log file to this bug so I can check it out? It should not be doing this anymore, which leads me to believe there's something strange going on under the hood there.
I have still the same issue so...
Have you also tried to uninstall and reinstall, Pisteur_alpin?
And which issue are you having? The previous commenter is having an entitlements issue, which isn't this bug per se - so are you having a problem where it says "Play Demo" or is it as described in this bug, the "can't connect to services" issue?
Yes I’ve tried everything, reset the store also and even reinstall the game but it didn’t work. :/
In fact the issue is the same, as the new launcher can’t connect to Mojang and Microsoft services, it says I haven’t the game so it shows the play demo button. When I open the new launcher, it shows the list of accounts with the add another account button, mine is showed (but without my profile picture, so even here it can’t connect), I have to click on my account, it shows the Xbox interface (Hello Pisteur_alpin! Cancel Play), I click on play, it tries to launch but it fails, shows the error at the bottom and the play demo button.
This screenshot is the same as on my launcher (that of AidesOrpheus) so I think it happens the exact same thing.
Would you like I record a video or it’s clear ?
PS: I'm French so sorry for my English
log is uploaded! I reinstalled the new launcher and opened it. It just shows play demo so I opened that screen as well and then closed both out.
Team has released some fixes that might help; please try to uninstall and reinstall again and tell me if the issues are persisting. Just released yesterday.
After doing everything you said I still have the same issue "can't connect to services", "play demo"
uninstalled everything, performed wsreset, deleted all previous downloads, redownloaded and still not working.
Ok. I'll ask the team to look into this again. Could someone still having this issue where they see the "Play Demo" attach a NEW log file from their minecraft folder? I want to be sure we have the latest to look at.
One potential mitigation: When the Launcher loads up and you see it say Play Demo... try switching to the Minecraft for Windows tab (or the Dungeons tab) and then back to the Java tab. That MIGHT help it figure out that you own it - if it does, then that would be really helpful to know for me because it tells me exactly what's going wrong and we can fix it!
Try this and tell me if it changed anything.
I attached a new one from today. Xuqoil if you search for "run" on your computer and open it, type in %APPDATA%\.minecraft and run that. There's a text file labeled "launcher_log" that you can drag over to the above section.
I've attached new logs too, and I think I know where's the problem: the launcher have no access to internet (but the old yes). I've checked my firewall settings and I don't see any problem
[media]hi it has been about a week and i am still running into the same issue is the team currently trying to tackle this issue still?
i have just found a fix even though i am on windows 10 i downloaded the windows 7 version of the launcher and it is giving me no issues at all
It's totally normal, the win7 version is the original, compatible with all OS over win7, it's works perfectly but you can't launch the bedrock/win10 edition of Minecraft. The win10 version of the launcher is a new launcher, it seems like the original, but as you'd downloaded in the ms store you can launch the bedrock/win10 edition of Minecraft, but for now it doesn't work with some people, the launcher can't connect to the Mojang and Microsoft services :/
I solved the problem! The problem is not with the launcher but with the Xbox services, as written in the error message. I renamed the .minecraft folder to .minecraft_save, uninstalled the launcher, uninstalled the Xbox app, reinstalled it, reinstalled the Minecraft launcher from the Xbox app and then opened it, it works, closed it, renamed the .minecraft_save folder to .minecraft and when I opened the launcher, it works! Now the Xbox team has to fix the problem.
Would that also affect people who bought the game outright and don’t use Xbox services though?
Interesting.
It should be the same for anyone regardless of if they are accessing via game pass or not - the Xbox services relate to the game entitlements (launcher knowing what you do/don't own) and the basic sign-on, which relates to everyone.
Shelby: I can't vouch for Pisteur-alpin's fix, but it doesn't sound like it would break anything to try it - and if it worked, it would be very interesting to know. I don't really understand why that would fix the problem though!
I tried it, now I don't have "can't connect to services", but I still see play demo button. It acts like I never bought it but I did :/
Volta_29: Would you attach a launcher log file to this ticket for us to review from your .minecraft folder?
Type windows-R
type "%appdata%" and hit return
open " .minecraft" folder
In that folder is a text file called "launcher_log.txt"
that's the one.
Volta_29: From what I can tell, you own Bedrock and not Java; you should see "Play" when you move to the Bedrock (minecraft for Windows" tab.
Is this not what you see?
And/or if you DO own Java (also?) then you probably need to contact support to get that figured out.
I added 3 attachments and If I understand it properly I should be able to play Windows and Java or maybe I'm just stupid 😛
Volta_29: It looks like you bought only Minecraft for Windows - which means you should only be able to play Bedrock currently, which it looks like you can according to your screenshots. Not Java.
As the callout box says, however, you should be able to play Java once we roll out the new bundle (summer 2022).
We are looking into it still yes - we've released updates that solve this for some users, but apparently not all.
Shelby: Have you installed the Xbox app as well by any chance?
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/apps/xbox-app-for-pc
Sometimes it installs dependencies the Store failed to do so, somehow.
Regardless - Shelby, confirm when you open the launcher now, even if you change to different game tabs, it never corrects itself?
I didn't have the Xbox app previously. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher with no success. Downloaded the Xbox app and tried again, nothing. Each time I've uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher, I download it from minecraft.net and it tells me there was an issue downloading and that I needed to finish in the Microsoft store. I can either do that, or click try again and then it will download and launch.
Shelby - are you logged in to the Microsoft Store? It sounds like the installer from Minecraft.net is having Store connection issues; might just be best to go directly to the Store itself to install.
I also do recommend installing the Xbox app - sometimes it does help. Please try these steps and tell me if anything changes!
We also have an updated version released to Beta just today that you might want to try - if you can click the checkmark in your Settings to see the Beta version of the Launcher, I'd be interested in knowing if this updated version helps anything!
I'm logged into the Microsoft store, and I now have the xbox app downloaded. Tried the beta version and relaunched, and still not working.
Shelby: To be clear - are you having trouble installing the Launcher or with the Launcher not showing that you own games you own? It sounds like it's both and I'm a little confused.
And if you have the Launcher installed - one user has solved this by re-adding their account to the Launcher, and it refreshed their entitlements & fixed their problem.
Alternately: Be sure to open the Xbox app and try to run the Launcher from within it; the Xbox app needs to be launched to be most helpful!
The launcher is installed, but it's not recognizing that I own both java and bedrock. I tried removing my account and logging back in, but it's still showing "play demo/play trial". Same thing if I open it through the xbox app as well. Everything I've tried doesn't work, it still only shows "play demo/play trial" and I have to go through the old launcher to play java.
Shelby and others that have a problem with this can you report a support case so that we can have a closer look at your problem. You can do that here: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
Please start that support ticket with the following text: "Reporting from MCL-20216 to provide the requested information". This is so that our support team can find you easily and forward that to us.
Then include screenshots of the launcher, the launcher text log, your Xbox Gamertag, and information on how you own Minecraft Java. Was it a direct purchase on minecraft.net or by game pass?
I submitted the info (twice because the first time I forgot the text you asked for) including those details. I bought java from an amazon game code (which is in the ticket as well) because at the time no matter how many times I tried or how many different cards I used, the direct minecraft.net site wouldn't process my payment.
Potential workaround for this for users on the new launcher from the Microsoft Store that seems to have helped a few people.
Close the launcher
Open Xbox Companion App (not the Xbox app, though that may also work)
Sign in to the account you're using in the launcher in the Xbox Companion App. You do not need to do anything minecraft-related in the app, just sign in to the app itself directly.
Relaunch the launcher
If you try this, please update here if it helped or not. This fix is not known to solve the issue on the 7/8 launcher, so if users are seeing it on that or on non-Windows OS, please update here as well.
Console Companion app link for users wishing to test this: https://aka.ms/XboxConsoleCompanion
i had this same issue at the start of the month, it seemed that using a VPN to set my location to the nearest location to me i was able to validate my login, otherwise it'd say "Player" at the bottom instead of my username and "Play Demo" instead of "Play Online"
A comment i have in MCL-19984 may fix this issue
