Windows 10/11 launcher fails to get entitlements for account

After installing the new, Windows 10/11 Minecraft Launcher and logging in with my Microsoft Account, I can't view my purchased version of Minecraft Java Edition and only have the option to play Minecraft Java Edition Demo.

After logging in, I have a message in the bottom of the launcher screen saying: "On no! Something went wrong, and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services. Try again" (see attached picture). Clicking "Try again" does not help, the same message is displayed.

In the launcher log I have the following error messages like the following:

[Error: 2021-12-22 09:02:22.0633536: UnifiedMSAAccounts.cpp(410)] Failed to get entitlements for account with XUID <ID>. Error: 999285912

[Error: 2021-12-22 09:49:18.2709426: UnifiedMSAAccounts.cpp(410)] Failed to get entitlements for account with XUID <ID>. Error: 114289352

[Error: 2021-12-22 09:55:19.3818197: XalApi.cpp(51)] Unhandled HRESULT passed from Xal: 80080300

[Error: 2021-12-22 09:55:19.3838522: UnifiedMSAAccounts.cpp(410)] Failed to get entitlements for account with XUID <ID>. Error: 16

This is an issue with the new launcher, with the old (Windows 7) launcher I can log in with my Microsoft account and play Minecraft Java Edition.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the launcher several times, both from the Microsoft Store and the minecraft.net website, but the same errors occur.

I have also attached the launcher log to this issue.

Hi there!
Could you answer few questions regarding this issue, it will help with the investigation:

  • Does this issue still occurs to you on newest version of Launcher?

  • Do you have a stable internet connection?

  • Are you logged in in both Xbox app, MS store, and Launcher with the same MS account ?

  • Is your Windows and associated apps (Xbox app, MS store) up-to-date?

  • Have you tried to re-registering MS store as written here

  • Do you use VPN or any of the incompatible software on machine you try to log-in?

  • Could you provide us with more in-depth repro steps?

Hi. I've got a same problem today with the latest version and resolved the issue: maybe try it out.

Note that my envilonment is slightly different from yours.

  • Windows 11 Home

  • Minecraft launcher version is 2.2.10322 (latest as of now)

  • Installed Xbox app as well as Xbox Game Bar.

0. I had the following problem:

  •  Minecraft Launcher says "Something went wrong" and shows only PLAY DEMO button, on Java Edition.

  • I am signed in with MS account

  • The upper-right corner of MS account icon shows a broken image icon.

  • I can sign in with MS account and you can download demo game, though I can't play the paid version.

  • Either cannot sign in on Xbox app or the app continuously shows sign in dialog and closes, then either crashes or somewhat succeeds to sign in

  • Xbox Game bar says not signed in

Here are what I tried:

1. Update the following apps from MS Store:

  • Xbox

  • Xbox TCUI

  • Xbox Game Bar

  • Minecraft Launcher

I was not really sure what app was causing the problem so I made sure all apps were up to date. Also this method may contain dangerous or unnecessary steps.

2. Read your log file.

If Minecraft Launcher app is NOT open:

Hit Windows + R key and type
%AppData%\.minecraft\launcher_log.txt
and hit enter.

If Minecraft Launcher app is open:

Start Windows Powershell and run (hit enter) this command:
Get-Content "C:\Users(Your username)\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\launcher_log.txt" -tail 0 -wait

You will see the launcher log file. Find a line like this:

Unhandled HRESULT passed from Xal: 80080300

If you saw exactly the same text, you have the same problem.

3. Log out completely from Minecraft Launcher.

Log out from your account in the launcher and CLOSE THE LAUNCHER. Seems like this is an important step so wait a few seconds before you proceed to the next step.

4. Open Xbox app and try to sign in.

You should see your user icon (or a icon of a person) so click on it and click settings. Then click SIGN IN in the section; Something like "This account will be used in Xbox app" is written above the button.

Xbox app might get stuck or crashes, but try several times. I gave up at some point and proceeded to the next step: Reset.

If you were able to sign in, try again on Minecraft Launcher. If not go to the next step.

5. Open Xbox Game Bar and sign in.

Hit Windows + G key, and find settings(gear) button. It's located on the other side of Xbox logo in the widget bar.
Choose "Account" and try to sign in. I didn't succeed at this point.

*6. *Dangerous: Reset Xbox-related apps.

Hit Windows + I key to open Settings. Go to "Apps and Features" then find Xbox apps (I had 3 of them, see Step 1).
If you are on Windows 10, click on the app.
If you are on Windows 11, click the … on the right part of the app item and go to "options".

Find the "Fix" button and click it. Then try the step 4 and 5. Also try starting Minecraft Launcher and see if the problem is fixed.
If it doesn't work, find the "Reset" button and click it. Note that you will have to sign in again on that app; also some data may be lost. At least I confirmed this does not affect screenshots, recordings, and Minecraft data.
Then try the step 4 and 5 again. Also try starting Minecraft Launcher.

My problem was fixed at this point. After resetting all Xbox related apps and restarting Minecraft launcher, it's back once again.

7. Dangerous: reset Minecraft Launcher.

Make sure to backup %AppData%/.minecraft directory before proceeding.

Rename your {{%AppData%/.minecraft }} to something else. For example .minecraft-WIP. This will temporarilly make your .minecraft directory invisible for Minecraft Launcher and Minecraft: Java Edition so your config will be reset.
You can get your worlds, configs back again manually. Just restore from your backup.

Try to start Minecraft Launcher. Moving .minecraft directory forces Minecraft Launcher to download its necessary files as well as game libararies so this will take some time.

If you can't fix the problem yet, try resetting Minecraft Launcher app.
Close Minecraft Launcher and do the similar thing of step 6.

Hope this helps.

Setting the ticket as "Awaiting response", as the workaround was provided by @icy9ptcl. However, if the issue will still occur, let us know here.

This issue is not resolved and the workaround doesn't work.

It's six months already and the game I paid for is unusable.

I'm attaching launcher log.

Anyone running into this still:

Make sure you have the following applications installed and that you're logged in to them:

https://aka.ms/DLXboxApp

https://aka.ms/XboxConsoleCompanion

And make sure you have these two services installed on your PC as well:

Xbox identity provider:  https://aka.ms/XboxIdentityProvider

Xbox live in game experience:  https://aka.ms/XboxLiveInGame

They should be by default - but some users found they somehow got uninstalled or disabled.

If none of that fixes your problem: Can you report a support case so that we can have a closer look at your problem? You can do that here:  https://aka.ms/MCLauncherSupport

Please start that support ticket with the following text: "Reporting from MCL-20981 to provide the requested information". This is so that our support team can find you easily and forward that to us.

Then include screenshots of the launcher, the launcher_log.txt file (from this location on your PC: %appdata%\.minecraft ) , your Xbox Gamertag, and information on how you own Minecraft Java and/or Bedrock. Was it a direct purchase on minecraft.net or by game pass?
