New launcher startup problem

This is more of an issue than a bug, but IDK where im supposed to put this. My world is not the issue, but it highlights an issue.

When starting up minecraft, i opened the launcher like normal, and pressed play. I, as the user, should assume it would start up the last thing I had opened. Only to figure out after I pressed play that it had changed my saved presets and opened a preset launcher that i didnt make to join my singleplayer survival in 1.20.1. This process had no way to be stopped (if it does it is not apparent) and automatically opened my 1.20.6 survival world in 1.20.1, clearing my inventory and all my chests, without making a backup.

There was no way for me to have it not open the world, I did not make the preset launcher profile, I could not stop it once started, it did not make a backup (which minecraft would have advised me to do if i tried to do this manually) and this preset was not even in my recently played.
This is a MAJOR design flaw and i am lucky I have a save from earlier today, but many will not be. Why does this exist? It should be reworked or fixed.

If there is a more correct place for me to put this, send me the link, as I do not know where it goes.

Hi!

Can you please tell me where do you start your Java? As a quick game or from standard Play?
Does your older world open in newer versions?
Can you please share a video of this issue?
Please also upload a launcher_log file from your .minecraft folder.

  • I start my game by pressing play in the top of the new launcher

  • My world opens in newer versions, but opening it in an older version clears inventories, chests, and any entities

Hi again, so to get this right, you (accidentally?) started the game in 1.20.6 and joined your world; when you joined it again in 1.20.1, things broke. This is expected, as downgrading a world is not supported.

However, you said that it started in 1.20.6 instead of the expected 1.20.1. Does the preset you clicked on say "latest release"? If it doesn't, click the down arrow to check. Can you please share a video of this issue? This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

Hi,
The world is not the issue, the issue is within the launcher and how it is programmed. I just pressed play, as I have for over 10 years. It automatically put me in an older version in my world. I did not click my world. I did not press an older version. My latest played version was the latest version of minecraft. If I had pressed on my world in that older version, minecraft would have warned me to do a backup of my world before opening it. Since it was automatic, per the new launcher change, it did not create a backup, and my world was opened and forcibly downgraded.
I have since then checked every time I have opened the launcher, and have had to change it to the latest release a couple of times. I'm not uploading a video because I don't feel like it. Im just pointing out this oversight.
Thank you.
