When a new Java Edition snapshot releases while the launcher is open the "Latest snapshot" instance displays the newest snapshot version name but launches the snapshot from before the newly released snapshot. This also effects the latest release instance.
Steps to reproduce:
Start the launcher
Select the "latest snapshot" profile
Note the displayed version (example: 24w36a)
Start and close the game
Wait for a new snapshot to be released (example: 24w37a)
Note the displayed version (example: 24w37a)
Start the game
Note the version of the game that's been started.
Expected:
The launcher to launch the version displayed. (example: 24w37a)
What actually happens:
The launcher launches a version different from what is displayed. (example: it displays 24w37a but starts 24w36a)

Hi!
Does this issue occur constantly? Or just while the new version of java comes out?
Also does this occur on the first try while booting Launcher with newest Java snapshot?
Does it only occur on Linux?
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
This will only happen before re-opening the launcher after a new snapshot comes out.
And as can be seen in the video attached by another user this issue also effects windows.
Confirmed on Windows 11 Minecraft Launcher v3.4.50-2.1.3 Minecraft 1.21.3 and 1.21.4.
the issue seems to be more significant when the background image is changed, as the contents in the background are not in the game.
And deleting the actual launched version causes error, even though the launcher has downloaded the latest release.
Confirmed. I've attached a video of the issue:
