Same thing happens on Windows 10

Same issue for me, the error was very deceptive as it wasn't related to window rendering at all.
The solution for me was removing the network-wide DNS block on the known tracking link, fpt.microsoft.com.

The login page on the launcher reaches out to fpt.live.com, which then CNAMEs to the other domain, if it can't reach the tracking link, it throws a misleading error and refuses to continue.

I hope this solution works for you too.

Hi!

Does this issue occur on the latest version of the Launcher?
Can you see if there is Login window opened beneath (hidden under) the Launcher?
Can you also, uninstall MultiMC and other MODS then please also uninstall the Launcher, delete .minecraft folder (copy its content elsewhere before deletion) and then reinstall, restart your computer. Then please try to boot the Launcher.

Can you also please see this article?

This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

Hit the same issue and can confirm my PFBlockerNG network ad-blocker blocking this domain caused this issue. Removing the domain from the block list solved it.
