Linux Launcher won’t startup

When trying to open the launcher it tries to load up with the armadillo loading screen before going to a screen that reads: “Whoops! An unexpected issue occurred; we are sorry for the inconvenience. Please try restarting your Launcher…”. After I restart the launcher and my computer a few times, still doesn’t work.

Running the following bash command as the non root user that runs minecraft solved the issue for me:

rm ~/.minecraft/webcache2/Default/Preferences

Then after that running minecraft again and this time it works.

Correction. To make the launcher work every time, the following command has to be used to start the launcher:

rm ~/.minecraft/webcache2/Default/Preferences ; minecraft

What is going on? This bug has been there for months.

This still works as a fix, but it is still a bug.

I’m running the KDE neon distro of Linux.
