Minecraft Launcher is Intel-only (x86_64) and cannot start on Apple Silicon Macs without Rosetta 2

Steps to reproduce: On an Apple Silicon Mac with Rosetta not installed (the default after upgrading to macOS 27), install Minecraft.app from the official .dmg and open it.

Actual result: The launcher can’t start. Every executable in the app bundle is x86_64-only:

  • Minecraft.app/Contents/MacOS/launcher (bootstrap 2.1.3, signed 2024-09-25): x86_64

  • Minecraft Updater.app/Contents/MacOS/nativeUpdater (2.1.3): x86_64

  • The downloaded launcher.bundle (3.29.53): launcher, Chromium Embedded Framework and all launcher-Helper processes are x86_64. Only libvulkan is universal.

The game’s Java runtime (java-runtime-epsilon/mac-os-arm64) is already native arm64, so only the launcher is blocking.

Expected result: The launcher ships as a Universal or arm64 build and runs without Rosetta.

Impact: A fresh download of the Minecraft Launcher cannot be started on macOS 27 at all without re-installing Rosetta. Furthermore Apple has said macOS 27 is the final release supporting Rosetta and Intel-only apps will no longer run on Apple Silicon after it (https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=w5ngl9k2 ). Without a native build, Java Edition will become unlaunchable on every Apple Silicon Mac.

Environment

macOS 27.0.1 (26A434), Apple M1 Max, Rosetta 2 not installed (default for all macOS27 users). Launcher downloaded from minecraft.net on 2026-10-09.
