Some text showed up on my launcher telling me that I was using an outdated launcher and that I should update to this new one without Java. So I downloaded it, replaced my old Minecraft in the Applications folder with it, and removed the "Application Support" folder because I assumed it would just download a whole new set of interior-folders. So I go to run it and it opens up a loading bar titled: "Downloading Runtime." The bar gets all the way up to 59.90 - 59.92MB, gets stuck, reloads, gets stuck at the same place, and then I get an error popup saying "Unable to update the Minecraft Native Launcher." I first did this yesterday, gave up after a couple tries, then did it again today a full 24 hours later, hoping it was just a server glitch. My friends aren't encountering any problems with it and I was wondering what the problem is. It's incredibly annoying.

Hey Alexis, I figured out how to fix it. It's not a Mojang bug (well, maybe it is, but) I just disabled my Antivirus software (for me it being Avast Mac) and downloaded it and it downloaded immediately.
Hey, thanks James!!
I read that somewhere else too. I have Avast Mac as well and when I went into the application I couldn't find anywhere that allowed me to disable to antivirus so I deleted it all together lol. But now I still can't open Minecraft :'( I'm going to mess with it some more and see what I can do because I desperately need to game haha! Thanks for the update. If you have any advice on how to disable the antivirus software lmk.
Thanks again
Did you ever find a way to resolve this issue? I'm currently experiencing the same problem and I did the same thing you did by clicking the link because my launcher was outdated and deleting my original version. I'm so frustrated 😞
