Minecraft 1.11.2 initially worked fine offline. I logged on online and the launcher updated to version 1.6.76. Now it will only launch while I am online, and I cannot access Minecraft offline. I think that it is a bug with the launcher, rather than Minecraft itself, but I'm not sure.

This is a MCL (Minecraft Launcher) bug.
The new launcher is currently rolling out and there this problem should not exist.
Did you use the old Java .exe launcher? And which OS are you using?

I'ts happening to me too. When I try to open minecraft launcher with one click on my taskbar nothing happen, same thing on my desktop with double-click (when I'm offline of course).
I am using the old Java.exe launcher on windows OS 8.1

Hmm ok, I was experiencing a bug with Windows 7 which caused the launcher updater to open but I immediately got a Windows error message that the launcher does not work anymore.

I too am having the exact issue on my Win 10 OS x64. When offline, I click the icon and nothing happens unless I am online. When online, it unpacks and downloads the runtime and unpacks the jar before pulling the login screen.
