DFS paths are not recognised as valid paths

Hi Guys

Running Minecraft PC, unmodded, on Domain joined Windows 7 Pro, using folder redirection for Desktop and Documents to a DFS path which points to my server. This location is RAID protected, and backed up on a schedule.

I have multiple workstations, with varying specs and varying installed apps and games. For this reason I do not redirect the default Minecraft save location, Appdata.

In order to "Roam" Minecraft saves (and keep them backed up and protected from disk failure), I needed to move the game data from Appdata to Documents. I did this by specifying the redirected path into the launcher "Game Directory" setting. The path is "\\contoso.local\dfs\users$\joebloggs\my documents\my games\minecraft"

Now, in Minecraft launcher 1.6.76, this works flawlessly, but it seems the latest update has broken the ability to enter DFS paths for the Game Directory.

In Launcher version 2.0.760, after the auto upgrade, The error "Unable to browse path" or something along those lines was encountered (sorry i didnt record the exact error at the time). After a restart of the launcher the save path defaulted back to appdata. I attempted to re-add the full DFS path to the files (which I confirmed was still accessible, just to be sure) but the setting would not save. Every time I re-entered the screen to modify the Game Directory variable, it was blank.

I managed to work around the problem by mapping the DFS path as a drive and entering the Mapped drive path instead.

It seems DFS paths are not currently supported.

Can you advise/confirm?

Do the developer comments on MC-5294 help you with your issue?

"MC-5294-Low Altitude Superflat worlds Create incomplete strongholds."

No, this is a problem with entering a DFS path in the new launchers "Game Directory" variable.

Problem still persists in version 2.0.1003 of the launcher. It just will not accept a unc path.

Screenshot attached.

Have you tried using the solutions posted in MCL-5294? Because the only supported ways of changing the working directory are listed in the developer comments in that ticket.

Ahh MCL not MC. That bug report is much closer to this problem but still not quite.

The users in MCL-5294 seem to be using a batch script, command line switch or junctionpoint to change the game directory. Im not.

I'm trying to enter a UNC path into the Launcher options. Additional Screenshot attached. This stopped working at v2 of the Launcher

At first i thought this was related to DFS but further tests show it actually effects any UNC path. So any network path you enter, will not persist. It now has to be a local path or mapped drive.

Still an issue with the latest versions of the launcher? Unfortunately, I don't have a setup to test this right now.
