[MCL-5511] Launcher stays white after launch

Potential Fix

Right click shortcut or MinecraftLauncher.exe, go to compatibility tab and make sure Windows XP is not set. Windows XP is not supported anymore.

When I started the launcher orignally it looked like it was going to update but as it finished, it gave me a white box. Minecraft worked yesterday and I changed nothing. What should I do?

That's very interesting! Can I also get a copy of `nativeLog.txt` and `updatelog.txt`? They'll be wherever your exe is, default is C:/Program Files (x86)/Minecraft/

Do you also know if you have done anything "fancy" like redirected .minecraft with a junction or symlink?

I figured out my own problem! It was that my Minecraft some how got put into compatibility mode for Windows XP! I didn't turn it on but I fixed it and it works perfectly now!

guys i found solution siple af but on wind 7

put minecraft on desktop(icon)
highlight it(press lmb once)
than rightclick
there will be option called trubleshot compability
click it
than say start program, it will be f*cked up still
than u press no try different settings
highlight windows vista 2008 and start with it
and that is all done

I also suffer from the white screen. Probably the rendering context thats not working. As the buttons etc are there (arrow changes to hand/finger in certain places).

I found a semi-permanent fix, until the launcher is permanently repaired.

FOR WINDOWS 10 USERS ONLY:
1) Go to the Desktop icon and right-click on it.
2) Scroll down and click on "Properties."
3) By default, you will be in the "Shortcut" tab at the top of the window that opens up. Click on the "Compatibility" tab to the right of it.
4) You will then have a boxed in area that's titled "Compatibility mode." Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for."
5) In the drop down menu, select "Windows 8."
6) After that's selected, make sure to click the "Apply" button on the bottom right corner of the window, and close the window.

At this point, when you reopen the Minecraft Launcher, you should be able to see everything that wasn't being displayed before (i.e. the black screen is gone).

PLEASE REMEMBER: this acts as a semi-permanent fix (as in the Minecraft Launcher will run properly), but only until the Launcher's code gets updated to work again with Windows 10 (not in compatibility mode).

I have this white launcher problem with my NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M, but curiously not with my Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy Bridge). Same computer, same settings otherwise. I also did a complete system reinstall in the meantime, still the same problem.

I've tried every solution I could find and I still have this problem. The launcher used to work fine, but whenever i launched any version of Minecraft from 1.13 and up, a white screen would show and the program wouldn't respond. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher since then and now I have this exact problem.

To @unknown and @unknown, and anyone else who still has this issue:

To get the latest beta version of the launcher, edit %AppData%\.minecraft\launcher_profiles.json ; replacing "channel": "release" with "channel": "beta". This has a small chance of fixing your problem, and will give newer logs for my request below.

Could you please help me by sending (or pasting the contents of) %AppData%\.minecraft\launcher_log.txt after restarting the launcher?

If you want to, you may try to move/rename the .minecraft folder in %AppData% to a backup location. Be careful not to delete it though, as it contains your Minecraft save files! This has some chance of fixing your issue.

If you haven't done so already, you can also try the remedies discussed above: make sure Windows XP compatibility is not set, and try to disable your graphics card in favor of your processor's integrated graphics.

PS. %AppData% is a directory on Windows that you can access by pasting %AppData% in the top bar of your File Explorer. DS.

It seems this bug has been marked as 'in progress' which isn't quite true as nobody in the team is actively working on it. However, considering that it hasn't been getting any activity for over a year, I will resolve it.
