My minecraft forge is corrupted, I do not know how to fix it

Hi! I am hoping someone has a solution to this issue I have been having for the past few months now. Whenever I attempt to load up minecraft forge, I receive an error screen that says, " Launch Failed, the version you are trying to play inherits properties from an unknown version." For some reason, it also says that the version of forge I try to play on is "1.12-forge1.12-14.21.1.2443" Which is an incredibly long title for one forge version. this all started after I tried to download the latest version of forge of the official forge website for minecraft. It immediately stopped working, and would not allow me to load the game, because of which I became concerned and decided to use the other side of the forge installer, which is supposed to remove the program from the computer, however when it said it was completed, the corrupt version was still there. Fast forward almost a month later and now I have tried removing minecraft all together, and it stayed with me then too. I even tried to manually remove it from my .minecraft files to no avail, it was still there and still had the same message. At this point, I thought it might be time to simply reach out to the forums, so if anyone has a solution... that would be amazing.
