The main ones I have noticed so far are logs can't be made into planks, and as you mentioned sugar cane can't be made into paper. There has been quite a few recipes just can't remember them all right now.

You also need bamboo to craft sticks now...wow how are we gonna start a new worlds without being in a jungle! First thing you do in minecraft is find a tree and collect 3 logs to make a stick. Why are they changing this!
