This happened with my cows and my skeleton farm.
I was feeding the cows and then when I left the pen they all where in the corner with there head up as if I was still there feeding them. I was on the other side and didn’t have wheat in my hand. My skeletons did something similar where they made noise and took damage but did not move instead just paused in the state they where in. They did still die.
