I was on my horse placing lava and picking it back up, and then the entire game crashed and I was sent to the home screen of my Nintendo Switch. When I came back I was in a past location with a past inventory and my horse was gone. I looked around several huge areas where I was in creative and I could not find my horse.

I had a similar problem. My game crashed (single player, survival, Switch) when I mined through a wall and lava became visible. My horse (not nearby) vanished, though the fence block where I’d attached his lead still had the lead “attached,” with the “Release” verb visible when I aimed at it. There was no lead line leading away from the fence, and no horse. I excavated a volume around the fence, but no horse. 1.6.100 has been incredibly crashy in general for me.
