Steps to reproduce
Build a 100+ blocks tall scaffolding tower.
Build a platform near the top and stand on it.
Switch to survival mode.
Jump so that you land >3 blocks down on the scaffolding, and hold the jump or sneak button.
While moving up/down the scaffolding, release the jump/sneak button.
Expected result
You take fall damage when you first contact the scaffolding, or you don't take fall damage at all (like when you catch a ladder or vine).
Actual result
You take fall damage after you stop moving.
When falling from any distance and grabbing back onto a scaffolding tower, similar to how some grab onto ladders when falling, fall damage is not applied when i grab onto the scaffolding, or when I climb back up the scaffolding tower, but rather when I stop moving on the scaffolding. I have tested this issue on multiple worlds, multiple heights of falling, and whether I climb up or down and how far I go before stopping. The damage seems roughly equivalent to the overall damage I would take if I were to simply fall that specified distance, however, it appears to wait for me to stop moving on the scaffolding before being applied.

This issue will be difficult to test until MCPE-105490 is fixed.

Added Video clip of fall damage occurring when stopping after climbing down some scaffolding. It's showing just some damage taken for short climb, and full kill when climbing down far enough.
For me, could not replicate on local play, only when connected to self-hosted BDS.

I’ve had this same problem but I thought it was just normal for that to happen before I read this

[media][media]) do not show the bug reported here, because there is no actual fall taking place. They just show fall damage occur while using scaffolding. That is probably either an example of of MCPE-105490, or a result of the "Server Authoritative Movement" setting on BDS.
The bug reported here is shown after first jump in this video:
[media]In the first jump I hold the jump button (spacebar on PC) from the time I jump until I reach the top of the scaffolding. I take fall damage only after reaching the top. If you release the jump button before reaching the top you take damage when you release the jump button.
I cannot reproduce taking fall damage when falling into scaffolding while holding the sneak button. That must have been a misunderstanding with the original repro steps.

This bug affects all kinds of falling. Found in bds so far. When running down stairs, when climbing down scaffolding (imagine having to climb down from y=215 three blocks at a time....). It would seem that there is no check on conditions related to y transitions (as best as I can describe the experience) or the fall damage is not switched off when on scaffolding, etc.
Note, also tried jumping from y=215, through water (assumed fall damage to be reset at water source) set at 20 blocks above landing point only to die on landing consistently. however, when jumping from 20 blocks above landing point I do have a heart left, seeming ruling the basic fall damage calculation out of the equation.
I forgot to say that this bug affects 1.17.2 and 1.17.10 so far

noob1884: the things you are describing are not this bug. They are variations of the random fall damage that they was first tracked at MCPE-105490 and is now tracked at MCPE-120140.
The issue tracked on this report is not related to random fall damage or desyncing player Y position. The issue tracked here occurs when you are genuinely falling and catch hold of scaffolding by holding the jump button, just as you can do with ladders and vines.
