My friend was trying to make a pillar of concrete powder then suddenly took three hearts of damage. She brushed it off but then "fell from a high place" despite not falling off of her pillar. Another friend in our server went to check on her and then watched as the exact same thing happened, and he confirmed that she had not fallen off of her pillar and had died while standing completely still. We've never had this problem before in the game until the update that came today, March ninth, 2021. We have reason to believe this update created or worsened more bugs than it fixed.

Possibly caused by the fix to MCPE-105490

I have been experiencing a form of this as well.

Can confirm!

Just had my thread closed for this issue.

Yes, because when it is set to Resolved it refers to the ticket as opposed to the actual bug itself.

It is not clear whether MCPE-105490 was actually fixed in 1.16.210. However, a similar fall damage issue (MCPE-109937) notes that that bug does not cause fall damage in 1.16.220.50 beta, so it should be checked if this bug (which is basically a symptom of MCPE-105490) is actually mostly fixed in 1.16.220.50 instead.

can confirm on iOS

Confirmed in current version on a realm while towering. Occasionally you randomly get pushed one block to the side and fall off. Happens when towering down as well.

This may not be the same bug, but when I come down from my base in the sky via a ladder, especially when my dogs teleport to me at the same time, I take half a heart of damage for no reason.

With elytra when i stop fliying, in 1 tick i got no damage but after 1 sec i got half hearth damage standing in the ground. No sense.

I've noticed quite a few times lately while watching my friend build, he will randomly fall several blocks through the pillar he is standing on on my screen and immediately be pushed back up to the top when he takes damage. I've also been taking damage several seconds after what appears to have been a successful landing after elytra flight, as if the game changed its mind about whether my landing was smooth or not

Please verify if this still occurs in the latest update, 1.16.220.

I can still reproduce this in 1.16.230.54 Beta, but only while in the Nether.

I have been taking damage when dismounting horses and running up a stair made of slabs to a flat floor of blocks.

i've died by fall damage when flying in creative

happens every time when I'm standing at a block that has at least one air under the block so I get no damage if until bedrock every block is not air but if it is snow or something else it happens anyway but why isn't the bug fixed yet? In two days 1.17 releases and it will still be in the game

I have heard that this could be a result of client-server desync when the game autosaves. If true, a potential way to reduce the chances of this occuring is to turn on "Show Autosave Icon" and stop doing anything when you notice the game autosaving.
This may also mean that MCPE-115933/MCPE-120431 are caused by the game failing to acknowledge that the player has teleported/certain player actions done during the autosave are not sent to the server, and the server forces the player to revert to the "conditions" just before the autosave.

I'm going to speculate something that is potentially very dangerous.
The Bedrock Edition's server-client handling system applies a server-authoritative movement to players by default (which cannot be turned off for single-player worlds). With this, the server-side player moves alongside the client-side player, rather than the client-side moving and the server merely accepting the client's movement. If the this is caused by some points of an autosave however, the input that the server-side player is receiving might not update sometimes. So if you are moving when an autosave occurs, you could take damage if you were moving towards a cliff since the server-player won't stop moving even if the client does (potentially reasoning the ticket's name "Taking fall damage while standing still").
This normally wouldn't be too dangerous since the server-side player snaps back to the client-side player after about a half of a second of position desync (which is backwards probably to prevent MCPE-65094 from being disorienting), but parts of the autosaving process might cancel the trigger temporarily, causing the player to fall much further. This also means autosaving on low end devices, or worlds with a lot happening at once, could experience this issue for longer periods of time.
This reminds me of the end of one of silentwhisperer's videos, where he was teleported to the nether while a portal was a few dozen blocks under him. According to the video, the ServerTime of the world was 5473, meaning that the world was running unbelievably slow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODh8A79ZRr0&t=993s

I can confirm this on the switch edition, too. Only one problem, enchantments like feather falling have no effect on the amount of damage you take, perhaps due to the de-sync, or maybe because (and I highly doubt this, but just want to say it) it isn't fall damage, but something else.

Posting This Again Here As Mine Turned Out To Be A Duplicate And Not Sure If The Info Was Copied Over
People On My Realm Are Dying From Fall Damage When Jumping Down From 2 Or 5 Blocks.
Does Not Happen Every Time. Maybe Every Day Or Two It Happens To One Person So Didnt Test On Local Copy As It Would Take To Long..
The Heart Or Hunger Bar Is Full..
It Has Even Happen When In Peacefull Mode.

possibly one of the worst bugs of bedrock

I've experienced the same phenomenon. NelLexvul speculated that it may have something to do with client desync with the server, but I've had it happen in "singleplayer" too. I put quotes around singleplayer since the game will host the world by default on the local network and to Xbox friends, but that does not change the fact that I am running the game on a world in which I am the only occupant with the device hosting the server. There should not be desync between client and server if they are running on the same device. (Well, it shouldn't happen at all really. Hence why we are here.)

Daniel Ross: Minecraft is multithreaded so there is always a client and server thread whether you are in singleplayer or multiplayer.

Affects 1.17.30.24

I had experienced this when riding a boat on top of a mountain top. I turned left when near the cliff side then noticed my entire hotbar of items disappear and a couple seconds later me dying suddenly without me even falling

Is there a solution to this? Because it just happened to me and i was in the nether, far from my portal and lost all my diamond stuff 🔪

This happens sometimes due to player motion prediction which was never added until update 1.13 (if i remember correctly), almost similar to the bug involving experience orbs when they touch flowing water. This is how I reproduced it:
1 - load a creative mode world with Operator permissions on
2 - place a repeating command block containing execute @a ~~~ tp @e[type=thrown_trident,r=20] ~~~, this is to show the actual player position and the client based position
3 - set the randomtickspeed game rule to 3000, or a specific amount that causes some client side lag
4 - tower up fast while standing on the corner of a block (example video showed moss blocks)
Due to the intentional lag from high tick speed, the server might detect the player action order incorrectly, causing the player to be pushed off just like when sand falls on their feet.

This happened to me as well on pocket edition, on my friends world. It’s really annoying because it happened to me when I was transporting villagers, and it happened three times.

I've seen and witnessed this problem when using /ability for the mayfly command, however it only happened when I turned the Caves and Cliffs and Experimental Gameplay On.

Can confirm in 1.18.2, randomly take half a heart of damage on Bedrock server when sprint jumping.

Still affects 1.18.12 😞

I experienced this bug countless times so far and I've noticed a pattern. It always happens when I'm crouching at the edge of blocks and also making tricky jumps. Every time it happens it makes the impression the game predicts me to fall off the edge or not make the jump, and at that exact moment the random damage happens even tho i never fell off.
There's also this bug that might be related where mobs and also players that are very far away seem to rubberband up and down very harshly when at the edge of a block. I've seen friends who joined my world rubberband up and down very fast when crouching at edges or doing parkour while at their end they did never fall off the blocks. So I suspect this "rubberbanding" causes the random fall damage. I don't think general lag is causing it since I play on a good pc and lag is never a problem but the bug still happens frequently. I might try and get some useful recordings of the bug happening and also the rubberbanding.

same happen to me, on version 1.18.2, and maybe it still work on 1.18.32

Playing on 1.19. This happened to me twice last night while pillaring up to cut down some huge warped fungi. I thought at first that I was taking suffocation damage from block lag or something until I realized that there were no other blocks around me. I feel like the comment above about "rubber-banding" might have some merit. In general, block lag and tps lag feels noticeably worse in the nether compared to the overworld.

Affects iOS 15.5

Android is affected to
I was swimming
After a moment it shows that I died from falldamage

Ok I can confirm that the "rubber-banding" is indeed causing fall damage. I watched it happen to my wife last night while we were working on a roof. Her character was near the edge and appeared to fall VERY quickly (like double falling speed) to the ground and then teleport right back to the roof again, taking fall damage in the process. I even caught it on video. It has her gamertag in it so I'm a little wary about posting it publicly. If Mojang thinks it will help them fix the bug I will do it.

I was towering to block lava in the nether and I suddenly got set on fire and died instantly, causing most of my stuff to burn up in the lava. Confirmed in 1.19.20!

I'd simply be walking through my base when I randomly take damage. This could very well explain the type of damage. Thankfully it's never enough to kill or nearly kill me.....

I’m on the newest update for version 1.19.21 on PS5
was building straight up to my base from a lower level in the nether, (no lava or creatures around me as it was on peaceful)
took half my health bar randomly… so I stopped and waited for regeneration. Built two more spaces straight up by jumping and building. Instantly died from “taking fall damage”
lost 12 stacks of powered rails. So like 500 gold. This issue has been reported on Reddit and Instagram since 2017… little brutal.
*edit* I have gone back to try the “rubberbanding” or at least played with different Jump and place techniques. It does seem that in random interval when getting into a routine of jumping up and building, you will take random damage that armour has no effect on. I’ve been able to recreate this issue numerous times within the same area of my original pillar.

Playing on 1.19.21 on PC on multiplayer Bedrock server.
I pillared up 210 blocks above my base (spawn point set on bed at base) using scaffolding. I then build a floor of concrete (210 blocks above base still). I then pillared up 30 blocks using scaffolding and went out by 5-6 blocks using scaffolding. When standing 30 blocks up and 5-6 blocks out on scaffolding, I started to take fall damage. Another player on the server confirmed that I was teleporting quickly to the floor I had created (210 blocks above base) and then back to where I was on the scaffolding (30 blocks down and then teleported 30 blocks back up). I could not visually see this happen, but I was taking fall damage multiple times. Once I left my scaffolding platform (the 5-6 scaffolding blocks), I ceased taking fall damage. I pillared up nearby (30 blocks above that same concrete floor) using netherrack, and I did not experience fall damage.
The server does have some occasional lag, and there was some lag in placing scaffolding every now and then. This occurred over a period of an hour and a half. The next day (in real life), I went to the same location where the scaffolding was that I had built in the previous play session, and I was still taking fall damage on those 5-6 scaffolding blocks.

I was playing single player 1.19.30 on Nintendo Switch and had this happen when building a 1x1 pillar higher than 5 blocks but building a 2x2 pillar and staying in the middle worked to get the "top of the world" achievement by building with dirt until I had 1 block left to go and putting 4 scaffolding on top then jumping on it.

I never had any problems with this until the 1.19.40 hotfix on the Switch. Today, Oct 29 2022, I took fall damage and died after pillaring up to collect a piece of jungle log I missed. I tested it several times after to make sure that it was happening before coming here to report.

Samething happened to me 3 days ago on sunday

It just happened to me and I was just building up

It happens while tilling land, as well. If you walk over the tilled land right after tilling it you will take fall damage if there are no blocks underneath it.

Its appears to be happening still, I'm building upwards to make a stone tower but keep on getting fall/hurt damage when I'm just going upwards, I keep losing at least 2 and half hearts or more, its been happening for ages but today, its happening continuously, its irritating now
Edit: I added a video of it titled fall hurt damage

This also happens with stairs in taiga villages, and climbing stairs and then jumping from block to another block, in which you receive false fall damage.

Affects 1.20.20.23 Preview

from what i’m aware, this is one of the reasons bedrock does not have a hardcore. we’re prone to a random fall damage glitch, meaning that the player may take fall damage randomly even when not moving.

Fixed in 1.20.60.20 Preview
FYI we are splitting out the issue some have reported regarding taking fall damage when gliding with elytra, and will be using MCPE-136406 to track this. If you are still experiencing fall damage issues with elytra in the latest versions please head over to MCPE-136406 to leave a vote and add any new information.

No idea if this helps or not, but a while ago, I found a way to reproduce this consistently. I had a boat with an allay in it on a wall of blocks 4-5 blocks tall. I stood on the edge of the boat, so I was partially above the boat was on, partially in the air. The allay would start to nod its head, and I took consistent repeated fall damage. I assume what was happening and what may be happening here is that the game thought I should fall because I was partially in the air, and caused me to "fall", with the allay tracking that position. The game then realized I should be on the boat, and so teleported me there. My friend came to watch, and they saw me falling and teleporting back up.

I still get random Falldamge for no reason, on my Realm, so, affects 1.20.62
